Dr. Kevin Jay Blinder, MD

Dr. Blinder is excellent. Yes he is quiet and reserved, however if you ask him questions, including detailed, technical questions, he will answer your questions thoroughly and I believe very accurately. He treated my dad also, who had severe eye issues and my dad could not have been happier. I would not choose anyone else for my serious eye care.

I've had RDs since age 12. I'm now 63. I've been treated by Retinal Consultants since 1971. I've been a patient if Dr Blinder for the last 20 yrs. He has ALWAYS been professional, skillful, and compassionate. Other reviewers have said his bedside manner is lacking. I TOTALLY disagree..at most he comes across as shy, introverted, quiet, and professional. He has always been very polite and informative when I have questions. I HIGHLY recommend him!

This was absolutely the worst and most rude doctor I have seen, and I am 64. He does not explain anything, or tell you what or why he is doing it. I was poked for 15 minutes in the eye by him, literally pushing my eyeball in every different direction, and not knowing why. It was SO painful. I was given no numbing eye drops. When I asked for a break because I was in intense pain, there was no break given or response. He told me that I if I continued to breath the way I was, I was going to faint. He pressed my arm and said, "This is all I'm doing. Does this hurt?" Of course, pressing on an arm verses pushing/poking on an eyeball is quite different. After 15 minutes of torture, no numbing drops, he told me that I was the #1 worst patient. He may been educated, but he was absent on the day that they taught patient care and bedside manner. I felt like I was at a retinal chop shop, just a number and money to him. The staff was not much better, of 4 techs, only one person bothered to… tell me her name.

I have seen many other doctors in the group and they were all good. I had to see him because I was unable to see my original for scheduling purposes. He was rude, showed no compassion. This being my 3rd retina detachment. When he asked who did my surgery it was Obvious he didn’t care for the doctor who did my surgery. He treated me like an idiot when I asked him questions(this was a follow up after surgery) I would not recommend him as a doctor.

Dr Blinder diagnosed the problem with my eye and I scheduled surgery with him at The St Louis Retina Institute. His team was very attentive and kind. Dr Blinder is very compassionate and shows great concern. I am very pleased and impressed with his manner. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Blinder.

If you want to learn anything about your condition, don't go see this doctor. He DOES NOT explain anything, even when asked a direct question. He does not follow standard protocol for macular degeneration care. I could go on and on but won't. There are many other physicians out there, go see someone else.

Starting in 2006 when I had a retinal hemorrhage to the present, and hopefully the future, Dr. Blinder has been kind, attentive, trustworthy and all I can ask for in an Opthamologist. I recommend him highly.

I’d like to be able to commend this gentleman as I do write positive reviews when warranted. However, you are simply a dollar sign to Dr. Blinder. He has ZERO manners. He just wants to rush in and out... explain nothing and absolutely bristles and becomes irrationally arrogant and overbearing if asked a question. I have never experienced a doctor positively belittle a patient to shut them down until this visit. I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone and especially not a senior who might buckle under his thunderous glare and scathing retorts. Truly shameful behavior.

My first impression of the office from the receptionist at the front desk to the assistant who took my my medical history was that impersonal at best, actually pretty cold- no smiles in this office! Dr Blinder diagnosed a retinal tear in my eye. Since I am a healthy, fit, non-diabetic with no history of trauma, the spontaneous nature of this tear was a little unnerving. I felt like I he begrudged me any of my questions. He was very curt, to the point of rudeness. It was obvious he wanted to get in and out fast. Maybe a retinal tear is pretty mundane to him, but it wasn't to me. He has great credentials, but he needs to take a lesson in common courtesy, sensitivity, and bed side manner. I am a healthcare professional and appreciate excellence in practice but I also know there are plenty of excellent doctors out there who have more caring attitudes and respect their patients right to understand what is going on with them. I will go back for my 2 week follow up visit but will go… elsewhere if I have more vision problems.
