Dr. Kevin Roy Byrd, PsyD

I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Kevin Byrd’s custody evaluation. His report was riddled with errors, including a confusing depiction of our family dynamic and a false account of my daughter’s attire. He even mixed up aunts with sisters and made a mistake regarding which dog bit my daughter. Most troubling was my 10-year-old’s comment to Dr. Byrd that there was absolutely nothing she would change about her other parent. It’s hard to believe that any child wouldn’t have something they wish were different. Dr. Byrd didn’t investigate this further, ignoring the possibility that my daughter might have been coached by my ex. Regardless of my feelings about his final recommendations, the numerous factual inaccuracies were unacceptable. Moreover, after warning about submitting extraneous evidence, he received 2,000 pages of information from my ex, while I only provided 100. He never bothered to ask for more details to get a clearer picture of the situation which I believe… was an ethical violation in the procedures for custody evaluations and produced a biased report. Additionally, 16 out of the 20 references he used were over 10 years old, raising serious concerns about the relevance of his findings. It felt as though Dr. Byrd had become complacent, focusing more on his courtroom presence than on delivering thorough evaluations. I sensed that the attorneys may have been hesitant to challenge him on his mistakes, possibly due to his experience on the stand. He demonstrated a lack of attention to detail that is concerning in a medical professional. While the outcome ultimately worked out for me, I would strongly recommend avoiding Dr. Byrd as a custody evaluator. His lack of diligence and attention to detail could have serious implications for families in need of accurate assessments.

He did an excellent job evaluating myself and my ex during our divorce. He was very thorough with his report and even had comments in the report which backed his diagnosis and understanding of the results. He was a blessing in the world of psychological behavior that produced the truth. I would recommend him for custody evaluations 100% of the time to anyone going through a difficult divorce with kids, where there is reason to speculate there are psychological behaviors going on that is hard to explain when you yourself are not a psychologist.

Involved in false parental alienation cases. Diagnosed the safe parent with paranoia / defamation of character -while also, claiming she was highly intelligent, yet had been abused by the ex-husband, his attorney and the children especially the son, had also been abused. Refused to acknowledge, sexual abuse of the daughter. Does not have his own children and clearly involved with other attorneys taking money, and helping abusers maintain custody. Absolutely no emotional connection to victims of abuse and violence, especially children. Then worked with the GAL to harm the mother/safe parent in front of judges.

Initially he seems thorough enough in his paperwork and presentation of himself. In my case however, he procrastinated and pushed his investigation back several times. Three weeks before his second extended due date he indicated he had not even started our case yet and pushed it back multiple times. I remained respectful and understanding every single time. He put it off until last minute (yet he had the time to go on vacation in Spain) and rushed through it cherry picking enough evidence to vaguely reference some of it while ignoring critical evidence that disputes several false claims he made in his report. He outlined evidence I am actually being persecuted by my ex then called it a persecutory ideation. Per his own testing not one of my elevations reached disorder ranges but he diagnosed me with a disorder despite my own therapist telling him I do not have it. His own testing revealed my ex and his wife to be a serious physical and psychological risk to my children and severe… continued parental alienation then he recommended my ex have sole physical and legal custody and if I want joint I should move closer to my ex. I would not recommend Dr. Byrd especially if your case involves abuse, he does not appear to be trauma informed and he will diagnose you for your ex’s behavior. You’ll likely fare better paying your ex the $10k to stop being difficult.
