Dr. Kevin Austin Stephens, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Stephens over the course of 20 years and I am so happy that I ever found him. I must say, the reviews below are correct in terms of a staff member but I happy to report that person is no longer there. Dealing with that person whether on the phone or in person was awful and I expressed my concerns directly with Dr. Stephens. If you are looking for a highly knowledgeable family doctor that truly cares for your well being, then go no further. Oh, and the rest of the staff is amazing now the one bad apple is gone.

I have seen doctor Stephens for the twenty years I have lived in Texas. I did not know this society still produced such genuine physician. He is the Real Thing! I challenge anyone to find a better family doctor. A rare Gem!

Dr. Stephens may be a great doctor. I was only able to see him once. I was impressed with his attention to my medical needs. The second visit was a nightmare. Not because of the doctor, but because of his front office people. I went in early to talk to his insurance billing clerk. I had only ever been able to leave a message for this guy and he never returned my calls. BCBS had made an error and had not paid his prior billing. I knew it was an error and figured we could easily get the doctor paid. Mind you, it had only been two days sinse BCBS had denied the claim. The insurance clerk doesn't come in until 5pm. The front office girl was very rude and made up all kind of excuses about why BCBS didn't pay the claim. She said it was applied to my deductible. Then she said it was because pre-existing. Neither were correct. She wanted $175.00 before I could see the doctor. I asked her if I could call BCBS and try to fix the problem on the phone and have her talk to them. She said I… had missed my allotted time and couldn't see the doctor. I explained that I had just driven 1 hour to the appointment. I left. The next day I got the problem fixed with BCBS, but no thanks to Dr. Stephen's billing clerk. He was paid in full but the terrible customer service never had to occur. Now they won't give me copies of lab results which were ordered and I haven't seen. I am having to file complaints against him with the Texas Attorney General's Office, The Texas Board of Medical Examiners, and the Federal Health and Human Services Office. I hope Dr. Stephens can find front office staff that won't run patients off. I have posted reviews on many websites for doctors. Many people have the same negative feelings about his staff that I do. He may not even know it, but he should.

I've been a patient of Dr. Kevin Stephens for several years, I don't know exactly when I first saw him. I've been very happy with Dr. Stephens in general. He is a great doctor and really takes his time with patients. I believe he is generally very interested in their health and well being. However, I have had a couple of issues with his office and staff in general. Very recently there was an incident which has lead to the decision to find a new primary care/family practice physician unfortunately. My partner, who was also a patient of Dr. Stephens for the past few years, had a physical scheduled for a Monday at 3pm. Over the weekend he received notice that a court case associated with his job that he had been subpoenaed for had been rescheduled again. He was required to appear at 9am that Monday, same as his appointment with Dr. Stephens. He hoped he could still make his 3pm appointment but was told when he arrived at court that jury selection wouldn't even start until… 1pm. He immediately called the office and informed the receptionist (Cindy) that he needed to reschedule due to the situation beyond his control and was told he would be charged a $75 missed appointment fee. He requested that she consult with Dr. Stephens as it seemed unreasonable to charge for a missed appointment when he called as soon as possible for something he had no control over. My partner called and told me what had happened. I immediately wrote an email to Dr. Stephens and sent it. I made a copy and hand delivered it to his office. In the letter I explained the situation and informed him that if he had indeed been consulted and agreed that the $75 fee was appropriate that we would have no choice but to leave his practice Later the next day Dr. Stephens called my partner and confirmed he had been consulted and said he didn't feel he could make exceptions simply because someone threatened to leave his practice. We were both astounded and furious. We couldn't believe with the long history and relationship we had with him that he would take such a stance and was somewhat arrogant about it as well. We completely understand the reason for the fee and that some people need to be encouraged not to constantly change or miss appointments. But there are exceptions and situations beyond our control which always should be a consideration. Neither of us has ever missed a scheduled appointment with him without 24hr notice and have rarely ever changed an appointment either. I truly believe the circumstances warranted without question the waiving of that fee. To be fair Dr. Stephens did finally tell my partner he would waive the fee, but the damage was already done. We are both changing primary care doctors for this reason and if you care about this type of thing being happening to you, I strongly suggest you NOT consider becoming a patient of Dr. Stephens. If you already are a patient, I hope you take notice and consider changing doctors.

Dr Stephens did a fine job during my recent visit. The staff was another story. His staff is discourteous, unhelpful and has caused me serious problems with my insurance and my pharmacy. The staff has not forwarded any requests I have made to Dr. Stephens for refills, questions etc. Their rude and inappropriate manner has been very disheartening. How could a decent physician not realize how disruptive his business becomes when staff are not doing their job and treating his patients with a lack of respect.

My dr/patient relationship with Dr Stephens has lasted well over 10 years. He's great! He's seen me through so much over the years, and thankfully did not hold against me my ex's ranting and raving at Debbie. He's never pushed medications on me, only given me what he thought I needed. Be they antibiotics or short term anti depressants. I liked Debbie a lot and am sad to see that she's gone. Ever since she left, getting return phone calls is impossible so I've given up. Thankfully, I haven't been sick.

I have been a patient of Dr Stephens since 1997. Dr Stephens is a great doctor but his staff tends to be the problem. Dixie was the best staff Dr Stephens ever had. They won't let you talk to Dr Stephens. will not give him your messsages, do not return calls, and are rude and disrespectful, they tend to forget who helps to pay their wages. If it wasn't for the long time relationship with Dr Stephen as my doctor I would have left long ago because of his staff.

Doctor is good. On vacation or out a lot. Jenny needs an assist. No return calls and no follow up on test results.

Dear Dr. Stephens,If your staff would let me talk to you in person, I would. But Nurse Jenny never returns phone calls, and the warden at the front desk doesn't seem to care. Your very kind, and I enjoy seeing you. Your staff on the other hand, I rather go have all my teeth pulled than deal with them. All I get is a run around, and they are not there to help the customer. Please consider customer service training for your staff!
