Dr. Khola H Dar, MD

The lack of care I received today from Dr. Khola Dar at Sandra Joy Anderson Comm Health Communitycare, Austin, TX must be documented and reviewed by any patient considering seeking medical attention from this woman. I have recently relocated to this city, in need of a new PCP and made an appointment with the doctor for continuing medication, annual gynecological, and overall physical needs. I provided the medical staff my chart digital medical chart information, current prescription bottles and reason for my visit. I did not receive care for ANY of the reasons for my visit above. The doctor looked at my medications and immediately told me not she nor anyone at the center would be prescribing Xanax or alprazolam to me. I was confused and taken aback that this was the very first thing she said to me as none of my medications include either Xanax or alprazolam. "Well this is a sister medication," she explained referring to one Rx. She didn't bother to look at the other medications… I'm currently on, but instead, she told me would only be willing to prescribe me Prozac--without asking me any questions regarding my mental health. I became very uncomfortable at this point and couldn't understand during the first minute of us speaking that she would feel comfortable switching medication I've been prescribed for over ten years to meds that have serious side effects that need to be monitored, just because the current meds fall under a controlled category? I felt as though I did something terribly wrong while she was speaking to me, as if I were a criminal or an addict trying to get a fix from her. After visibly seeing how upset and confused I became, she then obliged to speak with the medical director to see if they would let me meet with someone in their psychiatry department but assured me that they also would not be refilling my current prescriptions. Without attending to any of the other reasons for my visit she left the room and silent tears began rolling down my face. I felt less than human by this person. In a place where you're supposed to feel safe and cared for by a doctor, I felt the exact opposite. She came back into the room 15min later, explained that the medical director was not in but that they'd try to get me to the psychiatry department using the least amount of loops as possible but not until I submitted a toxicology blood and urine sample. Please note: I was more than willing to submit whatever they needed form me and none of my medications include narcotics. She was visibly uncomfortable by my tears, I thanked her anyway and that was the end of our interaction. She sent a social worker in to deal with the tears shortly after she left and right now, I'm just feeling so upset with how I was uncared for and mistreated. I do not believe that Dr. Khola Dar should be practicing family medicine, there is a complete lack of personal care and empathy that doctors in this field need to make people feel safe and comfortable that she is clearly missing. Patients need to know this information as well as the doctor herself and I just hope it resonates because my experience was completely unacceptable.
