Similar to other reviews I’ve seen I also got hit with a $400 new patient charge that I wasn’t made aware when I scheduled a physical. What I thought was an appointment for my physical was just a way to charge me the $400. I had to come back for the actual physical. The physical covered all the same areas as the “new patient meeting” plus many more areas and included an EKG. The bill for that was much less than the “….welcome, open up your wallet appointment”. I needed the physical for work so I ate it. I only had the need for a yearly physical and it was always with the nurse practitioner who was very nice so I stayed with the practice. Recently I had a medical emergency that required hospitalization. I was told by the Dr. Kersten’s office that I had to go in for a follow-up after a stay in the hospital in order to get a referral to the specialist. I told them I already had the appointment and didn’t need the referral with my insurance plan. I was told I had to come in anyways… as Dr. Kersten was the PC and she needed to be kept in the loop. She read my discharge papers and commented on stuff that was covered in the papers and with already discussed with the doctor in the hospital. She provided no useful input. She left the office for 5 minutes to print out lab work that was needed for the specialist visit I had already scheduled. She looked at them and told me the specialist would discuss it with me and handed me the print out. I then told her I had some basic questions about my issues and she looked very put off. I started with my first question. She gave a half- hearted answer and said that we could discuss further on the next visit and then walked out of the room and stood in the hallway and waited for me to leave. The lack of care and professionalism was staggering. I was charged $600 for a 15 minute visit and a 3 page print out that the specialist already had. When I called to complain I was told…too bad we coded things correctly and the insurance company approved the charges. Needless to say I left the practice. I have a new doctor now….there was no welcome to the practice charge, she has a wonderful personality and is very giving of her time. It is very refreshing.

Dr. Kersten tells it like it is. She is caring and takers the time to listen. If you are going to just spill your guts and looking for excuses to be verified then she is not for you. If you want sound medical advise and treatment she is top notch! I have been seeing her for several years now.

I love Dr. Kersten. She talks straight wth me, but with encouragement. Her nurse Kathy, is fine. I thought her last nurse Kristin was fine too. I've been a patient there for 6 years and the front desk and people who answer the phones are still rude. Debbie is terse and needs some people skills.

You WILL not find a better PCP! I feel absolutely comfortable speaking with Dr. Kersten about anything, she is compassionate, understanding, and truly cares. I have been her patient for over 15years, as long as she has been with NSIM. I trust her with my life and my family's lives. I have a very difficult schedule and she has to get frustrated with me, but always gives me A+ treatment. I believe it is impossible for her to be anything but professional, thorough, and polite.

The front desk never answers the phone, good luck in an emergency situation! Dr. Kirsten was rude beyond belief and made some very demeaning comments whilst raising her voice. She was so quick and I found she did not listen at all! Gave her two chances and both outcomes were the same, I left feeling horrible and demeaned and have not been for a check up since, afraid to go to a doctor now because of her and also did not leave the house for a long time due to being belittled about my weight.

She was defensive and rushed. Her ability to accurately diagnose is limited. I felt that I should apologize to her for being, as she so rudely stated -- "difficult because my physical issues are complex." She seemed more interested in in my boots; those she liked. One had to wonder, given how beautiful the facility is, whether this doctor is motivated by money. The practice sees twice as many patients as is the norm and we all know that even the norm is making things difficult for patients and doctors alike.

Front desk staff is beyond rude and inappropriate!Debbie is the worst of all. She said something incredibly inappropriate to me yesterday regarding a possible serious diagnosis. Nurse never calls back unless the office manage is called. Dr. Kersten used to be good but is now stressed, rude, and short with patients.

Go elsewhere! I leave each time astonished at how belittled I feel. She is stressed, rushed and always diminishing me and my concerns. I am amazed that I leave without my issues explored, or addressed -- unless I ask for tests or medications - which I usually have to fight for. This is not who I want to grow old seeing, as more things come up. I have made the decision to find another doctor.

Has been taking great care of me and my family, friends for several years. Fights to get you what you need, is very smart and whole staff follows up. A very competent, caring individual.

Dr. Kersten spends a great deal of time with me and tries to find solutions to my health issues. She is willing to try and try again until something works. A receptionist, Rebecca, is wonderful and extremely friendly & efficient. Deb, another receptionist, is very short and not at all helpful. Her nurse, Kristin, is very slow to respond to rx changes & records transfers to specialists. It has taken her a week to return my phone call 2 separate times. A co-worker is a patient as well & she has had the same experience with Kristin. It is a shame as I would not recommend Dr. Kersten simply because someone has to have a great deal of contact with Kristin & I would consider her close to icompetent.
