Horrible bedside manner. Condescending. Doesn't listen to or even pretend to care about what you have to say. Mid-examination she made rude, unnecessary comments about the stretch marks on my thighs. Unbelievable to me that a female physician treats her female patients the way she does, but she does. Do not recommend.

The single rudest meanest doctor I’ve ever encountered. She clearly has some personality disorder where she gets off on hurting women physically and making them feel bad. It’s unbelievable to me that she is able to maintain a license to practice medicine. Avoid at all costs.

She is the absolute worst doctor. She is rude, obnoxious, does not care if you have any problems or questions. Other reviews said she is condescending and that is correct. Don't ask any questions, she does not want to answer them. If you do ask questions, she is sure to be little you at every chance she gets.

I have known Dr. Melen professionally for 25 years; from a personal standpoint she has been following me ever since my longtime OB left practicing. Once that occurred there was no need to see an OB, I was done with childbearing. I needed someone who strictly practiced gynecology and preferred a physician who specialized in perimenoausal/menopausal medicine. Dr. Melen is knowledgeable and direct, she does not mince words and she does not order tests/procedures because that is what the client wants, she orders them because she feels there is a need or a legitimate concern. Be prepared with your questions and if a prior condition exists; provide specific results and data to back that up. Upon reading reviews it appears that several women physician hop, they go from one doctor to another in hopes that one will order the tests or provide a diagnosis that they want.

Dr. Melen was an absolute nightmare. The appointment with her was nothing less than degrading. I made the appointment because of a lump in my breast and continuos bleeding. She laughed at my questions, talked down about my regular (and loved) Dr. Joshi and was completely dismissive with my concerns. I am 27 and have had a lump in my breast for 2 months. When asking where it was she laughed at the size and told me I was over reacting and it was just a pimple. I told her it had been there for months and was increasing in size and discomfort. She pulled at my skin where the lump Is and said "see it's not even in your breast, quit being dramatic". I told her I would like I second opinion as breast cancer runs in my family and you can never be too safe. She repeated told me she didn't care and it wounldnt hurt her feelings. When she saw my eyes were welling up with tears because of her horrible bed side manner she asked if I typically cry and overreact at the doctors. To complete this… nightmare appointment she asked on my way out if I even had insurance to cover the mirena I inquired about. When I said yes, she interrupted me and said well if you don't, there are assistance programs for people like you who can't afford it. I laughed and said I DO have insurance when she abruptly turned around and said oh yes I know but you have a large deductible. It was all a nasty game to her. This doctor is a disgrace to healthcare and to women looking for help. I ended my appointment in tears and walked to the GYN office across the hall where the wonderful staff and CRNP took me for an appointment, answered all of my questions, ordered a breast sono and apologized for such disgraceful behavior for a medical professional. The lady in the waiting room told me to read these reviews. Too bad I read them after wasting my time. Hope this helps someone in the future.

Awful !!!!!!!!! This doctor is rude, sarcastic and condescending. I had a very important concern and she shrugged her shoulders as if she could care less about it. I felt verbally abused and embarrassed when I left her office. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone !!!!

My God, this woman is awful! I will NEVER come back here. I have never had a ruder, more unprofessional doctor in my entire 42 years. Dr. Melen was condescending and unfriendly from the start. She actually argued with me about what part of the state I was from(?????) I tried to ask her about the best type of birth control for my age, and she just stared at me like I was a moron. She kept interrupting what I was trying to say, then just snapped, "do you want to go on birth control? Is that what you're trying to say?" I've never been embarrassed by a doctor before in my life, but I was -- and shocked by her rude, annoyed manner. I had been nothing but pleasant and friendly toward her, and couldn't believe she was reacting in such a way. She was very rough during the exam, and when I expressed discomfort, she yelled at me to 'stop fighting' her. All-around horrible experience. I can't believe there aren't more complaints about her lack of bedside manner and bullying ways. She, of all… people, should know that if she's going through the menopause, there are medications to help her with the mood swings. The staff wasn't particularly friendly, either. When I arrived for my appointment, I went to the receptionist's window and stood for a full five minutes while she blatantly ignored me. Finally I took a seat, and after a half-hour, during which she called at least three other patients who had arrived after me, I went back and tapped on her window. She sighed heavily and yanked it open. I told her my appointment was supposed to have been 30 minutes earlier. She snapped, "you have to let me know you're here!" I would think that, as a new patient to this practice, they would have made SOME attempt to be a little friendlier or professional towards me. I actually left in tears that day, and I'm not a crier. I've never felt so mistreated in my life -- and by a doctor. I, obviously, have never returned. I also tell everyone I know to steer clear of this particular doctor...particularly if they have teenage daughters. This one seems to believe that every female who's breathing is sexually active and in dire need of the most expensive birth control available. Horrible, horrible experience. If there are any positives, they are few. The Oxford Dr. office was easy to find. The waiting room here is spacious and not overcrowded. That's about it.

Dr. Melen is awful. She interrupted my exam, and made me wait forever while she took a personal call to make a lunch date, that I could hear. She was insulting and dismissive of my concerns. She actually made fun of me when I asked her questions. Office staff was wonderful. Run from this woman. She does not deserve to be called a doctor.

I fired Dr Melen 11 years ago after she finally told me, after 3 years, that my uterus was enlarged and that I might have fibroids. Asked her about a vaginal hysterectomy -- said uterus was now too big. Asked about a newer procedure, at that time, called UFE--she'd never heard of it. She ordered an ultrasound---by the time I had the ultrasound--I had contacted another physician for the UFE and another gyno to OK it. She did call with the results, which I already had, and said she'd see me in 3 months (in a a voice mail) ---by the time the 3 months had hit--I'd had the procedure. When I first picked up my records--the staff asked if this was for a 2nd opinion--I said I didn't know---the staff knew that they'd lost yet another patient. I had been using her for about 10 years.

Absolutely awful! I would rather not see a doctor at all than go back to this doctor. She is sarcastic, rude, and uncaring. For a UPMC doctor I would give her not even 1 star. There are MANY other great doctors within Upmc, steer clear of her!
