I gave it the old college try with Dr. Moran. I really did. I saw her for months. Months! But I truly felt my condition worsening under her care. She never really offered any advice, and when she would repeat back to me situation-specific details it was astoundingly clear she hadn’t been really even listening to me- confirmed by having access to our visit notes in the patient portal. I was spinning my tires with her- a therapist who didn’t listen and offered vague advice that didn’t apply to me. I would ask how to apply her advice to my situation and she couldn’t explain it. “You need to feel your feelings,” she would say. I’d tell her I don’t know how to do that (from years and years of trauma and abuse). And she’s say, “You just have to do it.” Sweet. Top notch recommendation. It’s also useless to suggest going somewhere only to follow it up with “Oh, but they’re closed from Covid right now.” She eventually made very rash and inappropriate recommendations for me (in-patient… hospitalization) without giving specific reasons why and out of the blue (I didn’t fit any criteria that would trigger such extreme measures). When I confronted her about this at our next visit, she back-pedaled and denied having suggested it and gaslit me. Eventually she admitted that she doesn’t have room in her schedule for me, so she suggested hospitalization to pass me off to the next therapist. And then had the audacity to suggest we continue our therapeutic relationship. I firmly believe I am objectively worse after having been in her care, and I’ve needed to process the damage she has done to me with my new therapist. I cannot recommend her to anyone ever. I’m honestly surprised she still has a license.

Dr. Moran surprised me in the first session with the insight she provided that I could immediately work on. Each time I meet with her on a weekly schedule, I find another piece of insight that is helping me do the heavy lifting I’m facing. I’ve worked with therapists at different times in my life and she is the only one who makes me eager to return to keep asking for her more.
