Dr. Koteswara Narla, MD

I’ve seen Dr. Narla for me more than 10 years for migraines. At my last appointment there was a long line at the checkin desk when leaving and I needed to get back to work so I planned to call and schedule my follow up which I forgot to do. I usually go in once per year and did not realize I had missed my appointment until I ran out of refills. When I called the office the staff told me I needed to be seen and the first available appointment was more than three months out. I made the appointment and never received a call regarding my medication refill. I called back a week later and was told they would not refill my medication until I was seen but they could not get me in any sooner. After multiple messages I was finally able to get a 1 month refill of migraine medication to last me the three months. At the visit he did not address the changes in my headaches and spent most of his time questioning why I hadn’t made a six month appointment like he told me to. If I was supposed to return… in six months and it’s been more than a year, I would think his nurse should have called to see why I had not been in and make an appointment, but instead they ignored it until I realized I was overdue to come in then gave me a hard time even though I’ve come in as scheduled for the last 10+ years. This was very disappointing and I will be looking for alternative options for providers.

I saw Dr. Narla after I had surgery for my back in 2002. He put my Xray up to the window at the hospital to read it. He told me my pain was all in my head. I went to Mayo Clinic and they diagnosed me with nerve damage and another issue that Dr. Narla had not diagnosed. I had referred myself to Mayo Clinic. I asked my primary care physician to ask Mayo to review my chart because it was necessary to get in. Dr. Narla wrote a letter to my primary care physician - and he was mad that my PCP advocated for me. My pain got significantly worse after a procedure that Dr Narla had done. After I discharged from Mayo Clinic in 2010, I went to pain physicican in Chicago area and this physician identified that the device apparatus i had in my back had been broken in 12 places and a piece is permanently next to my spinal cord. If I have a severe accident or fall and that piece dislodges I will be paralyzed from the waste down, Dr Narla did no testing to see if my device was not working or if there… was something broken. He felt I was a pain in his ear and he was dismissive. I can tell you that since going to Mayo Clinic and now that I drive to Chicago area for pain management, I now have a neurostimulator and no drugs. Dr Narla in my opinion did not listen to me as a patient, and he did not do a thorough job as a physician. He dismissed my complaint of severe pain, and he treats women as "worried well patients".

Saw Dr.Narla immediately diagnosis was Parkinsons. Told to take the prescribed medicine 3 times daily come back in 6 weeks you will be fine. Each day I felt worse my wife called the office only to be told you have to give the medicine time to work and body to get used to the medicine. Each day I got worse lethargic unable to walk felt like I was shaking on the inside. Became harder to walk.At the 6 week appointment he checked me had me walk (by that time I was using a cane) then ask my wife if I was drunk( 9:00 am ).He said well you don’t have Parkinson’s we need to get you off that MEDICINE.I don’t know what you have will recommend another pair of eyes to see what they think.And out the door because the allotted patient time was up.I ended up almost unconscious unable to walk talk or speak. Thanks to Barnes-Jewish hospital they saved my life. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME

I was stunned at how rude Dr Narla was to me a new patient. Actually told me he did not want to hear what I thought or what my previous doctor said that I was to just answer his questions. He walked out the door before I could ask any questions. His tone was sharp and rude. I would have walked out but feared my insurance would not cover another opinion. I am to go back to see him for an EMG and am dreading dealing with his cocky dismissive attitude.

I have had several appointments with him and each were the same poor quality of care. He is often very short with me and does not address my concerns. His tone is sharp, hateful and degrading. During the visit my questions are not answered and not welcomed. Each visit I leave with no new plan of care and frustrated. Highly do not recommend a visit with him.

You are not allowed to ask him questions without a rude response. It's as simple that. It's his word or nothing. Medicine is a practice, where else to get medical information than from your doctor? He is rude and unprofessional. DO NOT GO TO HIM. He will waste your time.

I was very pleased with his very caring manner and follow-up. His staff also displayed the same.
