Dr. Kristen Tomiko Hoover, MD

Dr. Hoover is excellent. She has expertise in so many areas and always has an idea of what a problem is. Then she readily refers me to a specialist if needed, x-rays, or anything to confirm. Often at Kaiser, these services are not offered by physicians in Internal Medicine. Along with her amazing expertise, she is kind, caring, and a good listener. She makes you feel like you matter and isn't rushing to get out the door like a lot of Kaiser Physicians, because your '15 minutes' is up. Dr. Hoover has all the characteristics that an excellent doctor needs and I am so grateful to have found her. I have had many doctors at Kaiser for my primary care and never had a doctor as excellent in all areas as Dr. Hover is. Thank you so much, Dr. Hoover.

Weird to see one-star reviews. Awesome doctor! I've been seeing her for several years. She has a warm personality and is willing to have a conversation about my concerns. And when I email her she responds quickly. I recently emailed her to report pain in my lungs that lasted about five minutes, and she called to check on me the next morning at 8:30am! I consider myself fortunate that she is my doctor.

I have been going to Dr. Hoover now for 7-8 years. Contrary to other reviews on this site, I have found that she is very empathic, and aska a lot of meaningful questions. She also takes time to explain her reccomendations and concerns. I highly reccomend.

She stays up to date and current on research. Dr. Hoover is deeply compassionate, a fantastic listener, and goes above and beyond for her patients. She has been my doctor for 6 years. We have worked on everything from injuries to the flu to anxiety. She knows way more than the average doctor and her solutions are always great. My wife switched from her physician just to be with Dr. H.

This doctor doesn't ask questions she just tells you what she thinks and if she's WAY off base in her presumptions about your diet or lifestyle and you tell her she does not listen to you. She knows it all. Rather than asking questions that can lead to a diagnosis she assumes facts that are untrue. When you try to participate in your own health and correct any misconceptions she smirks at you like "yeah, right". And she gets defensive and patronizing instead of working WITH you. Will not see her again. Another Kaiser doctor who has no interest in collaborating with her patients and no intellectual curiosity to get to the real root issues causing the illness.

I saw this doctor for an annual physical. She did not examine me, nor did I even get my blood pressure taken. She did not touch me. I told her about a problem I was having with nausea which she handled well. She was new to me but I felt I could trust her and be relaxed. I told her about my recent operation and that the doctor had noted that I do not have hemorrhoids. I happened to mention that I was dealing with a lot of sadness lately around recent deaths. She had no response. We went on to talk about the medical problems and I left. Short visit. When I went on the Kaiser website I noted that she had diagnosed me with a hemorrhoid. Not a good listener. Then, I saw that she had also written: Major Depressive Disorder, Recurrent! This was in medical file for all to see. Mind you she is a fairly new internist, not a mental health professional. She never mentioned depression, never asked me the standard questions one should ask such as: How long have you been feeling… sad? How often does it happen? Do you feel like harming yourself? etc. She also never suggested I see a mental health professional. She just wrote it down and never mentioned a word! After spending close to 3 decades in a counseling center, and running groups with teenagers, I know that this is not standard practice. It is, I would propose, irresponsible and unprofessional. I am in the process of getting it expunged from my record, a total waste of my time.
