Dr. Kristopher Stephen Pfirman, DO

Kristopher Pfirman, DO, is an osteopathic doctor who specializes in cardiology. He treats men and women for a wide range of heart conditions, including cardiac arrhythmias, valvular heart disease, heart failure and coronary artery disease. Dr. Pfirman also performs diagnostic imaging like echocardiograms, cardiac computed tomography angiography, nuclear cardiology and cardiac MRI.Dr. Pfirman notes that his patients inspire him to come to work every day. "I am honored to have the opportunity to bring top-notch cardiac knowledge to the area and help our patients with their cardiac health," he says.He earned his osteopathic medical degree from Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. He followed that with a residency in internal medicine at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, WV, where he served as chief resident. After his residency, Dr. Pfirman served as chief cardiology fellow at The Medical Center at Bowling Green in Bowling Green, KY. After his …fellowship, Dr. Pfirman took a post-fellowship position in advanced cardiac imaging at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.During his time in West Virginia, he established an advanced imaging program. He brought that expertise to Geisinger when he returned home to practice medicine.His desire to practice medicine began after a childhood bicycle accident. "After sustaining a laceration of my spleen, I was fascinated by the idea that doctors could see inside my body without surgery or invasive procedures," he says. Imaging tests led to additional discoveries that required surgery at Geisinger 's Janet Weis Children's Hospital. "Because of this traumatic experience, I want to give that same care and compassion to those who come through the hospital doors," says Dr. Pfirman.Dr. Pfirman lectures on medical training programs across the country. He's an accomplished researcher and writer, with more than 17 publications in peer-reviewed publications. He's also a reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals. And he writes cardiology content for the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Pfirman received a teacher of the year award for the Cardiovascular Geisinger Fellowship as an Advanced Imaging Fellow and believes strongly in providing up-to-date medical knowledge to future doctors.He's most proud of "working alongside junior medical professionals like residents and fellows to continue to publish in quality journals and continue teaching future cardiovascular medical professionals."Dr. Pfirman is a native of Williamsport. He says, "I enjoy bringing my expertise back to my hometown. I have had medical school rotations at multiple hospitals across the U.S. Throughout this journey, I've realized there's nothing like home. To be able to provide professional care to my fellow neighbors where I grew up is beyond any reward I could have imagined."
