Dr. Laura Murphy Bleekrode, MD

I took my teenager to Dr Bleekrode on advice of a therapist for short-term medication for anxiety. My teen was subjected to cruel judgmental criticism of this current situation. I was subjected to rude, judgmental criticism of my parenting. Do not subject your teenagers to this physician. I have filed a complaint with the GA Board of Medicine.

I have taken my 2 teenage daughters to see Dr. Bleekrode since birth and USED TO think she was wonderful. Our last visit was so inappropriate, upsetting & shameful we will NEVER return. My 1st daughter was berated for wearing too much make-up, which as a conservative mother I thought was very appropriate (and how is this a medical concern?). My second daughter had made some bad decisions in her teenage life but has really turned herself around but Dr. Bleekrode told her that she is wasting our money by seeing her counselor (how is that her business?) That she was convinced my daughter is doing drugs and that she was going to make a note in her chart that she believes she'll end up in prison one day!!!! We just went there for physicals! My daughter was crying, I was shaking and later so mad at myself for not speaking up but I was in shock! That was a year ago and we are still upset about it. If it's not too late I may report her to the medical board. She was so out of line!

Dr. Bleekrode USED to be fantastic. But over the years and much office turnover, I feel the patient care greatly diminished. Instead of listening, the care seemed to turn into being told either my child will grow out of it, or getting pushed to take something. She is always overbooked and the support staff is new to the profession, lacking knowledge. I would suggest going elsewhere.

DO NOT GO HERE! We needed a new pediatrician (long story. ) We tried this office. The nurse practitioner is the best thing about the place, but everything else about the office is dismal. After the visit we were handed off to the RN. The advice we were given was reckless, strange and actually quite negligent. My child's situation was pretty serious and it was grossly mishandled. My child is currently suffering needlessly because NO ONE CARED at this office. I'm up late worrying. I may file a formal complaint - in fact, I think I will. Don't walk run the other way! BTW, I NEVER take time to review things online. This was THAT bad. Consider yourself warned.

I first took my son to Dr Bleekrode the summer of 2014 for a minor injury. I was happy with her. Then, I brought him back for a 2nd grade well child check a few weeks ago, and my major concern was his anxiety. He was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome several years ago by a neuropsychologist in our prior home town. Well, Dr. Bleekrode pointed to the diagnosis on the chart and said, "Do you BELIEVE that?" Evidently because some of his behaviors are not typical, e.g. he isn't monotone and he doesn't have a special topic of interest. I was caught off guard and started to doubt myself. Then she looked at Austin and said he is just making excuses, that it doesn't matter that we just moved to a new town or that his dad works all the time and is never home, that he should be able to deal with it. She shamed my son to such a degree that he put his head down and started crying. She barked at him, "Sit up. And look at me. LOOK at me." She told him if he comes out of his room at night, that mom… is going to lock him in his bedroom. I don't know where the heck she got that idea; I would never do that. She also told him, as she was right in his face like a drill sergeant, that he had to eat 5 bites of everything at dinner or else nothing to eat until the next meal. I was stunned into silence, I'm embarrassed to admit. To top it all of, she prescribed Lexapro for him, which isn't approved for children his age. I won't be giving him that and I won't be going back to her. My son used to love going to the doctor, had no fear. That has all changed. Very sad and disappointing.

Dr. Bleekrode is a kind and caring pediatrician and spends lots of time with patients. The first time she met my son he was having stitches removed. He was scared and nervous. Before taking the stitches out she sat down next to my son and wanted to get to know him first. She made my son feel relaxed and cared for. Great Doctor!

Dr. Bleekrode is rude. She took my 18 year old college student in her office required her to get STD testing and refused to give her birth control because she doesn't believe in premarital sex. My adult child left her office feeling like a needed an A on her chest when in reality she is sleeping with a long time boyfriend and no one else. I consider this very ineffective. Not giving birth control will not stop teens from having sex. In addition to that who made this lady the moral police?? How about medical advice instead of judgment.

Dr bleekrode is the most rude unprofessional bog headed doctor I have ever seen! I cannot believe the way she talks to patients and other health care professionals!! I will never allow my kids to be seen in her office. Dont know how she got compassionate award but she could care less. I also work in health care field and know her professionally & do not care to speak w her again. She is worried about herself only!!

We chose Dr. Bleekrode before our first child was born and that was the best decision we ever made. She is very knowledgeable and takes time with you and your children. She has always been spot-on with us and has never misdiagnosed our children. She also has hands-on experience because she has eight kids of her on. Dr. Bleekrode truly cares about her patients and their families and you can tell each and every visit. We will continue to go to her until she kicks us out because of our kid's age!!!
