Summary
As your physician, I value my relationship with you and I know that maintaining a good relationship means being able to communicate with each other. My colleagues and I have home pages so that we can stay in touch more easily.
My Background
I grew up in Bend, a small mountain town in Central Oregon and then attended college at Boise State University in Idaho and studied vocal performance and piano, receiving a degree in music education. Despite my intense love for music, I knew I wanted to become a physician and took extra courses in biochemistry and biology to prepare me for my career.
I headed back home for medical school and received my MD from Oregon Health Sciences University. Then, at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, I completed my pediatric residency and stayed on for an additional year as Chief Resident. My love for teaching kept me at UC Davis as a medical student instructor and hospital clinician until 2009 when I finally settled in at Kaiser Permanente in Roseville.
…Working at Kaiser affords me the opportunity to provide high quality, evidence based, personalized care to each child. I hold myself to high standards for practicing up-to-date, excellent care and strive each day to improve upon my technical skills as a physician. Equally important is interacting with patients and families and helping them through a difficult time in their child's life.
I chose to go into pediatrics as a specialty for one simple reason - - I LOVE working with kids. Children are resilient, hopeful and a whole lot of fun and I cannot think of a better group of people to spend each day with!
Roles & Responsibilities
As a pediatric hospitalist I provide care for children who are hospitalized at the Women and Children's Center in Roseville, California. I also serve as a local coordinator for continuing medical education for many of the inpatient and specialty medical providers.
On a Personal Note. . .
I am married and a mother of two young boys who are full of energy and keep me busy exploring the world when I am not at work. My husband is a molecular ecologist at UC Davis and together we enjoy traveling to different parts of the world, most recently Mexico and Kenya. Our days as a family together here in California are usually spent strolling through farmer's markets, camping in the mountains or playing dinosaurs on the carpet of the family room.
Hobbies & Interests
Besides playing with my children, my favorite thing to do is sit down at the piano and play a song. Singing and the piano have been a part of my life since I was 5 years old and provide me with happiness and a source of stress relief. I also find peace from my faith which helps me remain grounded in my day-to-day activities.
I try to keep up with all the young adult literature that my patients are reading-my favorite series are Harry Potter, Twilight and Chronicles of Narnia. I enjoy talking with my patients about good books, so let me know if you have a book I should peruse!
