She is an amazing Surgeon and is taking great care of my son. I feel he is in excellent hands and trust her completely with my sons vision and lazy eyes.

Eh....I have taken 6 kids to Dr. Piippo over the years. Generally she spends less than 3 minutes with them and doesn't even really talk to them. It was always her staff that gave me my overall opinion of her practice. Staff have been unpleasant in the past, not so much with the child being seen, but one in particular would overshare her political views. Wait times were over an hour in the past. We switched to an optometrist that we love since our eye issues were being addressed with glasses anyway. Latest child's eyes were in need of an ophthalmologist's opinion so we went back for this child's first appointment. Dr. Piippo's bedside manner was lacking during this appointment. My child addressed her and she wouldn't acknowledge my child. I finally had to answer my child since she would not. She commented on my child's pronunciation as being almost correct which had nothing to do with the appointment. Staff told my child that the drops were going to be bad. I was also told they don't… regularly numb the eyes because kids won't cooperate for 3 sets of drops. The problem with telling a kid something is bad is the staff doesn't know your child's concept of bad. My child has gone through some rough stuff medically so when someone says "bad," my child equates that to the time my child needed morphine and surgery. It would have been better if the staff had let me just frame what was happening for my child instead of inserting their opinion. In the bigger scheme of life, drops aren't that big of a deal. My child needed to hear that the drops would sting but that it would improve. When I tried to reassure my child that things would get better, they seemed to really want to tell my child just how long that timeline would be. My child's issue was trying to understand why my child's vision was worse after visiting a doctor. I couldn't even get a word in to help my child understand. Also, after dialation my child was describing my child's distorted vision and Dr. Piippo felt the need to "kindly" argue with my child's terminology which ended up frustrating my child. Honestly, I don't know what my child was describing as "everything looks swollen." However, we just distorted a young four year old's vision. How important is it for a four year old to use precise language to describe it. It felt like a weird appointment. Dr. Piippo was silent when she shouldn't be and should have been silent when she was not. After this appointment, I was wishing for the silent Dr. Piippo that my other kids experienced. I do think that she is good as far as her knowledge of the eye. I have never felt like my children have gotten poor care as far as their eyes. However, I don't feel like I'm taking my kids to a PEDIATRIC opthalmologist. It feels very much like an adult opthalmology office trying to do a good job with kids. Front desk was very efficient and pleasant. First staff member that evaluated my child's vision with the tests was very good with my child.

Only reason 4stars is because the help after for glasses was Terrible. I had to beg for help but still the girl acted like we were intruding on her sitting at her desk. Not helpful at all. I wish I knew her name. Ugh. We ended up getting nothing and will come back another time and see if someone will take the time to explain how the glasses process goes and help my daughter get s pair of glasses ??

Everyone was very friendly, didn't have to wait, overall the appt. was very thorough and we were very satisfied with the results, Dr. Piippo explained everything, very very nice and was great with Brody overall a great experience.

Dr. Piippo was very thorough in explaining possible causes of my condition, treatment options, and plan of care. She has a warm personality and fun sense of humor, which put me at ease.
