Dr. Laurie Fleckenstein, PhD

Interesting to read these reviews and see bad ones. I disagree. I am a believer in therapy and I've seen my share of mediocre therapists through the years. Laurie is very professional, intelligent and focused on helping you get through whatever issue you are experiencing. She is not one to indulge people that are not interested in solutions, so if you are just someone that wants to complain about your issues and have someone commiserate what you already think, then maybe you should go talk to your best friend instead. If you are a woe is me I'm so upset and I just want someone to make me feel better, again, go see your mom. However, if you are truly trying to change behavior that is unhealthy or trying to get through something difficult, she will help. She is not warm and fuzzy at first glance, but I think she has tremendous compassion. For me, I was engaging in some habitual unhealthy behavior and I wanted to stop. And to be honest, the unhealthy behavior was a habit, something… very comfortable for me, so that was not easy. So I really appreciated someone very clearly letting me know that my methods that had led me to this place, were not working and I need to try something else. This is what she did - provided me with insights into my behavior, gave me some ideas on how to change and held me accountable. Maybe some of the posters on this thread weren't really looking for that. but if you want to figure out how to get through what's limiting you from being happy or dealing with an issue, and you are ready to try a new approach and do the hard work, she's very good. I got through some tough stuff working with her. I would argue she's probably best for more intelligent and self aware patients trying to make a change for the better in their lives though.

Laurie comes off a very soft-spoken and warm initially, but the doesn't last long. In my opinion she's extremely cold. If you challenge her on her methods she'll get flippant. Very passive-aggressive. You're going to talk about what SHE wants to talk about.

Dr. Flechenstein is the most unethical therapist I have ever encountered. PLEASE look elsewhere, especially for any relationship counseling. She has a tendency to exacerbate problems, especially if the female is somewhere on the feminist continuum. Her personal issues supersede her ability to fairly and ethically conduct unbiased sessions. My experience was deplorable and abusive
