Dr. Lawrence Joseph Alter, MD

This man couldn't be worse with a patient. I had been seeing him for over 10 years, only to keep a check on my PSA, after prostate cancer. Why, well he is close to my home, easy in and out. He Only spends a few minutes; 5 minutes reading from last time, less than 5 in conversation, while mostly typing on his laptop. Fake bedside manner and he really dislikes any questions or discussion. I believe he makes things up on the record he types in. I asked him once, after 5 years or so, if he even knew my name and he didn't. I told him I had some questions once time and he said to write them down. When I tried to ask, as he was leaving the room, he said: "hurry up!" Another time he was prescribing meds and he became irritated when I wondered if my insurance covered it. So, I called my CVS right quick and he didn't like that one bit and it wasn't. Screw him! He might know what he is doing, but I have fired him because of his way of being. I always said I wouldn't trust him if my cancer came… back and from a non-related MRI a month ago, it may well have returned since my new doctor is checking for Malignant Neoplasm on my spine. The final straw was when I was asking questions and he actually says: " Sir, you are always doing this and he stomped out of the room!" Do yourself a favor and find somebody else, unless you don't want to know anything.

After having unresolved urine infection had a referral for Dr. Alter. After seeing a tumor like on the bladder let me know I had 99.9% percent chance of having cancer. Surgery next day, chemo included. Six days later he lets me know it's NOT cancel. CRUEL. Then I needed the office to fax in paperwork to approve my time off from work, TWICE they did not follow instructions and once they charged me for the service. FLMA was not approved, my attendance can affect my ability to have promotions. Then the infection continues. Many calls from his office but, when I call back no message in between visits. Some staff are true warm hearted but, mostly it's just scripted words. More testing, once time the office did not sent in orders so I got to sit in the hospital till the office opened. Another test ordered in two days (on my bowels, go figure) and here I sit at work with a high fever and loss of appetite. Have been on many antibiotics, that can't be… good on a body. After reading other reviews I will not just trust a doctor and his referrals of his friends. Time to move to new doctor before I die.

this was my first visit with my 82 yo mom in a wheel chair. she has kidney disease and urinary issues and was sent their by her nephrologist. after 45 minutes she had to urinate so bad, asked the reception if we could go on back and do the urine sample. (very nice lady). she told the nurse and the nurse said she would be with us shortly 10 minutes later i had to ask again. 5 minutes later the receptionist took us back. the nurse casually strolled up and asked what the problem was. told her and she begin telling how busy she was. when i told her i really didnt care, just wanted to get her to the rr before we had an accident. She huffed and looked at my mom (with alheimers) asked her name. I spelled the last name, she hesitated stared me in the eye and slowly wrote the name on the cup then extended her arm within about a foot of me to hand it to me. I went on in without any help and there were no hats. i went out to ask for one nurse was gone, yelled out for another nurse and a nice… lady from another dr came around the corner. took her to the rr and acted like a REAL nurse. When the dr came out I asked him about it and he was as bad as they nurse. didnt care, told me if i didnt like his nurse to choose another dr. So did. how crazy a urologist that wont let someone with urinary issues go pee. go figure. hope he enjoys his pay check.

Dr. Alter appears to have a solid knowledge of urological problems. Unfortunately, his standards of practice were very disappointing. Wait time for four appointments was at least 50 minutes each due to his busy surgical schedule. The nursing staff kept me waiting 45 minutes past the schedule appointment time for a urine flow test - talk about uncomfortable! Surgery was the treatment of choice rather than a more conservative approach of medication treatment which was endorsed for my condition at a second opinion with another urologist. Dr. Alter seems like a nice enough guy who has experience in his field. Sadly, I cannot recommend him.

Seen quickly, polite staff and Dr. Alter was very attentive.

I have seen many different Urologist over the years. This one has made his practice seem more like a " cattle call". What really set me off was his lack of concern over what he prescribed as it relates to price to you and me. I am all for changing drugs when one does not work and that is what was done on this third visit. What shocked me was the pharmacy bill for two 90 day drugs at an out of pocket cost of $600(because I have a high deductible). Why doesn't this doctor discuss alternatives with patients so our wallet is protected as well as our well being? It took me a little research to find alternative drugs that I made this doctor substitute and are working great for me at a savings of $500. I have moved out of Irving so I won't be seeing him anymore.

One of your staff memebers was very rude and thought it was a laughing matter that several of us in your waiting room were frustrated about our wait time. We also witnessed her being rude to one of her co-workers just for asking her a question, I didn't get her name, but maybe she should leave her attitude at home and be placed in a back office away from your patients.... I did not get her name but she was a colored girl with very short hair sitting near the windows.

Patient was treated by this doctor for over 1 year for urology problems. He kept him in a cathedar the whole year, never ordered catscans after requesting them. He was always short and unpersonable. Went to dr in same office and catscan ordered immediately by that physician and found cancer. Had to have 7.5lb tumor removed along with bladder, prostrate and bowel. After 1 year of urostomy problems, UTI's due to this misdiagnosis and an additional colostomy, this patient died due to sepsis. To this day, I believe if Dr. Alter had took the time to treat this patient or agree he didn't have the knowledge and refer him to someone who did, he would still be alive. I wouldn't take my dog to this man because I love him tooo much. BEWARE!!!

Got an appointment for a week after I called. Paid cash upfront for the proceedure.Office staff probably overworked, and burdened with insurance verification, etc., like most medical offices. No problem with Dr Alter.
