Dr. Lawrence Steven Cohen, MD

I find him to listen and be conservative in his approach to medications. Overall its been a positive experience.

I am baffled by the bad reviews. It is mad to not see the professionalism, thoroughness, kindness, and sincerity of this excellent doctor. When I met him, I was drunk, manic, suicidal and basically destroyed. He spent a year listening to me cry. He gently kept me living and slowly introduced medication to help me. When he could, he would lower the doses, yet still effective. With the security of being in his hands. When I rebounded. I would wake to see him in the hospital with me. Years lster, I am doing pretty well, but he keeps encouraging me to take new steps towards a happier future. My dad was a psych prof at UCB and researched Lawrence. He approved of my seeing him. I don't get these other reviewers but I guess the opinion of damaged people might not be the sanest. See Get on Dr. Cohen's wait list and just feel the relief on being cared for. :)

He overmedicated me for one and the therapy ended up making my depression even worse. He charges too much. He doesn't seem to remember much from one session to the next. I think he needs to retire.

And sometimes when things were bad, I really had too. I have been seeing Lawrence for about 9 years. He has guided me through alchoholism and the underlying manic depressive, suicide attempts and hospitalization, as well as the embarrassing transference. Now, approaching the other, saner side of the world, I can count on him to talk it through. He is very emphathic but he doesn't make things too easy. He is at heart, I think, an intellectual for himself, but not so stringent witu his patients. I wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for.his strength.
