Dr. Lawrence William Joyce, MD

I would not recommend Dr. Joyce for oral surgery. Some years back he performed what should have been a routine frenectomy on a young person in my family, and two days later the patient was hospitalized with a life-threatening infection in intensive care. While unexplained results do occur following any kind of medical procedure, it was his defensive lack of interest following our horrific experience, coupled with his inability to take any responsibility for what happened (which we were not trying to put on him, rather attempting to understand how this could happen to an otherwise healthy young person), that most horrified me when I went to see him later. The afternoon of the surgery he had departed on a golf vacation, and in the terrifying scramble to understand what was happening and get the patient into a hospital, I had not contacted him right away. When it was established that my family member would survive, and I did contact him, he simply said it had nothing to do with his… surgery, which of course was absolutely impossible. There was no empathy for his patient who nearly died after his surgery. At the time I had no desire to consider a law suit. Moving forward, I certainly would never have anything to do with this oral surgeon again. Fortunately, the patient recovered due to excellent care by emergency doctors, despite them being astounded to see such a large, life-threatening infection manifesting in such a young, healthy patient who had undergone this oral procedure.
