Dr. Lawrence S Turtel, MD

Dr. Turtel diagnosed my son with bilateral cataracts when he was 8 months old. We have been going to see him regularly since then, for almost 10 years. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Turtel. When my son needed cataract surgery, he recommended a surgeon at Wills Eye who subsequently did an incredible job on both of my son’s cataract surgeries. But more importantly, Dr. Turtel was willing to call the surgeon and insist that he saw my son before the surgeon left for a vacation. This simple outreach potentially changed the outcome of my son’s vision. He has since gone to bat for us again prior to my son’s strabismus surgery when he was concerned regarding an issue prior to surgery in the OR. Dr. Turtel is always patient with my son (who has not always been the easiest patient) and gets the exam done and if ever we have concerns or questions, he is always available. The staff in the Little Silver office is friendly and kind to my son, even when he’s giving them a hard time!

Dr. Turtel saved my child's vision in 1 eye. Another doc told me there was nothing that could be done for it, but Dr. Turtel helped us restore her vision in that eye to 20/20, with patching and glasses. He is very knowledgeable and kind. Strongly recommend him.

Dr Turtel is amazing. I wouldn’t take my children to any other opthomologist. He diagnosed my nephew with a rare eye disease, after my sister had gone from doctor to doctor, and likely saved his sight. Over the years, he has treated all of my children, and recently so adeptly removed a foreign object from one of my son’s eyes. He is very smart and capable, but also has such a wonderful ease about him around children. I highly recommend Dr. Turtel!

Dr. Turtel is amazing! I was shocked to see my daughter couldn’t see a picture 12x12 with only her right eye. I had no idea how bad her vision was. After just 6 months under Dr. Turtels care we saw huge improvements. She is now seeing 20/20 with her glasses. And can even read the smallest print on the chart!

Both of my sons see Dr. Turtel. We have been going to him for the past 3 years. He is an excellent doctor. He explains everything very clearly. I also love the rest of the staff. It’s not easy taking 2 boys to a doctor at the same time and they always help me keep them occupied.

We have been seeing Dr. Turtel in the Little Silver office for over 8 years. Our daughter has a lazy eye and astigmatism. Very knowledgeable and always explains every detail of the exams and pictures they take of the eye. His bedside' manor is very calming and we don't mind making the trip to his office for our yearly visit.

In Fall of 2018, we brought our 4 year old to get his initial eye exam at the Ocean Twp. office. After two separate evaluations by this office, our son was diagnosed with boarder line astigmatism and recommended glasses. The following year (2019) at his yearly exam, my husband was told by the doctor that since our sons astigmatism was "borderline" that it was up to us to decide if we wanted our son to continue to wear glasses. Since his astigmatism was "borderline" and his eye sight had not regressed, we decided not to have him wear glasses. All along our son would say he could see fine without them. This week, we had parent teacher conference and the teacher expressed concerns about our sons academic development. So we decided to get an independent eye exam. It was clearly revealed that my son does have his impaired vision and should have been wearing glasses all along. I'm frustrated that medical professional in the Ocean Twp office were not able to make a CLEAR decision… because i know we would have followed it- period. i I'm frustrated that our son has gone by several months with impaired vision because a DOCTOR was not able to make a definitive decision.
