Dr. Leigh Anne Bains, MD

Dr. Bains is thorough and attuned to my needs.

Dr. Bains told me she would would order a medical test after our office visit (in effort to diagnose my symptoms), and someone would be contacting me to schedule it. I never heard anything back. I left three messages over the course of 2 months asking her to order the test, and noone called me back. I apparently need to take another day off work to go to a different neurologist that is willing to follow up with their patients.

I consulted Dr Bains mid-Feb 2018 due to symptoms including numbness and tingling in my extremities and difficulties with memory. She told me she would schedule me for EMG in Fredericksburg followed by diagnostic testing for neurological dysfunction in Kerrville. After several weeks passed without hearing from the Dr I called and a staff member told me that the EMG tech was unavailable and he would get back to me with further information. That did not happen. I called to get an update and was told there had been an office personnel changeover which had contributed to the confusion. Perhaps, but that did not explain the continuing lack of professionalism I was being subjected to. I belatedly learned that the Dr insists on working with a single EMG technician who has now been unavailable for more than two months! After several more calls to Dr Bain's office over the following weeks, each time being told that someone would get back to me, and not getting the promised call-back, I called… and asked Dr Bains if we could proceed with the diagnostic testing in Kerrville while awaiting the seemingly unknown availability of the EMG tech. I was told that Dr Bains would make the referral to the Kerrville office and someone would get back to me. After almost two weeks hearing nothing, I called the Kerrville physician's office myself, was told that no one had contacted them in my case, so I made the appts myself and asked them to advise Dr Bains office, which they agreed to do. Today (Apr 26, 2018) I personally visited Dr Bain's office. She told me she did not know when the EMT technician would be available and to seek another Neurologist if I needed more timely attention. I asked for my medical records and she told me she could not give them to me until some future date (I am, of course, skeptical to say the least). Tonight I experienced another of the ongoing symptoms (numbness and tingling in a finger and this time changing to a bluish-red color). Dr Bains had been advised of this issue in mid-Feb, but now I am apparently on my own, and must start over with a different Neurologist ten weeks after my initial visit to Dr Bains. In my 70 years I have never before been subjected to such poor communication and a seeming lack of concern by a physician's office.

I have been to Dr. Bains several times and found her very caring and thorough in her examinations. She gives good recommendations and is always listening to me and my concerns. She takes the time to do a great examination when I am in her office. Her staff was always considerate and accommodating to me.

Dr. Bains is one of the few physicians I have had (specializing in my chronic movement disorder) who understands the personal touch as part of my treatment. There is only so much anyone can do with my condition but I come away with a sense of encouragement and hope, not just "clinical medicine" standards.
