Dr. Lena Rose Wiley, MD

I took my 15-year-old daughter to see Dr. Lena Wiley for ongoing issues with painful periods after she had already undergone surgery to remove a large cyst. We were referred to Dr. Wiley with high expectations due to her reputation for specializing in women’s health. As a woman of color I was hopeful that she will provide the quality care my daughter deserves, especially given the disparities in healthcare that exists for people like us. Unfortunately our experience was deeply disappointing. From the start Dr. Wiley‘s demeanor was cold and unwelcoming, which was particalarly distressing considering my daughters age (15 yrs old) in the sensitive nature of her condition. Dr. Wiley immediately recommended IUD to regulate her periods. My daughter experienced significant pain following the procedure. When I ask for tylenol to help manage it, Dr Wiley seemed irritated by the request and mentioned that most patients don’t complain of pain. Her slow response and dismissive attitude made the… whole situation worse. The lack of empathy and communication from Dr. Wiley left my daughter feeling traumatized. To this day, she is reluctant to see a gynecologist because of this one terrible experience. It’s disheartening that a young girls introduction to women’s health care could be so negative. I sincerely hope Dr. Wiley improves her bedside manner and interactions with patients, as everyone especially young women deserves to be treated with care respect. All patients should be treated equally. Please get it together !

The reason I went to Dr. Wiley in the first place had everything to do with the video she put out on what her philosophy and practice were about: women, busy, not making enough time for themselves. She caters to that patient population, so she says. I had to be seen sooner rather than later, and Loyola just could not make that happen. So, I went back to my old doctor near my previous home and was taken excellent care and right away. I got copies of my file from Wiley, important things to note about me medically were missing, important things (compassionate care that Loyola claims to give) were missing: my marital status, the fact that I have six kids. All that was written was n/a no information given. So, my bicornuate uterus wasn't mentioned, my huge family, none of it. She focused instead on negative comments and failed completely and providing compassionate care. Dr. Wiley, your video doesn't match you at all. Please take it down because you will end up disappointing more… patients like me. Good luck, you will need it.
