Dr. Leonard David Lomax

Dr. Lomax is one of the best doctors I've ever met. I had the chance to work with him as a resident and I must say not only is he an excellent clinician and surgeon but a wonderful teacher. Furthermore, he fixed a torn tendon in my hand and it works perfectly. He was loved by all the residents and students so much so we honored him with best preceptor award during my time in the program. He went out of his way to not only teach us about orthopaedics but also about the business of medicine, something they don't teach you in medical school. It's unfortunate that he became a target of several politically influential individuals in Des Moines who sought to tarnish his reputation because they were jealous of him. Typical, if we don't like you, we'll smear you tactics. Sad that this type of behavior is still prevalent today. Nonetheless, Dr. Lomax will always be loved by the residents, students, staff and his patients. He was an inspiration to me and I'm thankful I had the chance to work… with him.

As a surgical nurse Ive had the pleasure of working with Dr. Lomax and I must say he is one of the best surgeons Ive ever worked with and Ive worked with a lot over the past 30 years. He is very meticulous, detail oriented and a joy to work with in the OR. He is also one of the most compassionate physicians Ive ever met, which is generally rare especially nowadays. Not only have I appreciated his abilities by working side by side with him, Ive also personally benefited from them as Dr. Lomax has operated on and taken care of several of my family members. He gave my mother a new knee and her life back, and he also reconstructed my grandsons knee after he blew it apart in a football game. He is now playing football in college with no problems. I saw the comment left by a disgruntled father regarding Dr. Lomax. I am familiar with that patients care. Unfortunately, God rest his soul, that young man struggled like so many others today with an addiction to pain killers. All too often people… expect doctors to be Gods and cure all of their problems. But doctors are not Gods and people have to take responsibility for their own actions. Its very sad that young man overdosed on pain pills despite efforts by a lot of folks to help him. The father would be better served putting his energy into something positive such as helping society come up with solutions to help resolve the epidemic of prescription narcotic misuse and abuse, instead of bashing doctors. Its simply not right. My prayers go out to this grieving father.

Dr. Lomax was one of the best doctors I've ever had. He helped me when several other surgeons blew me off after I lost my insurance. He was straightforward and with me when it came to my abuse of pain pills and needing to get off of them. Because of Dr. Lomax my knee is repaired, healed and like new and I'm also off of all pain killers. Dr. Lomax was a godsend and there when I really needed help. I recommend him to all my friends and family.

This guy performed 2 surgeries on my son, while NOT be certified to perform the specific surgeries. My son was in excruciating pain when he died. It is my purpose in life to see that this guy never practices any type of medicine on any one again.

I sincerely hope this doctor decides to stay in Des Moines. After seeing several doctors over many years, I went to see him for a problem another doctor had said I needed surgery for. He had a pretty good idea what my problem was after he examined me and ordered the right tests. His diagnosis was exactly right when the tests showed two torn muscles inside the joint which weren't obvious on other xrays. All the other doctors had no idea what the problem was but he could tell almost immediately. He operated on me and saw me throughtherapy for several months with great results. It was a more difficult surgery than even he thought because there was also a torn tendon and bone spur with a stretched sac around the joint. He had me take it slow during therapy and I got a lot more movement and use out of my arm than even he expected. I honestly believe it was because of his being such a great surgeon. His knowledge and skills seem to be almost instinctive. He could tell about what was wrong… with me just by the way I carried myself and before he examined me. I tell everyone that needs an orthopedic doc to go see him. He is awsome.
