Dr. Leslie I Davis, DDS

I am a healthcare provider. I went to this Periodontist, Dr. Leslie Davis at Arizona Institute for Periodontics and Dental Implants for extractions, & implant. My reason for choosing Dr. Davis was I received a beautiful, glossy pamphlet in the mail, and he seemed to have a kind face and was close to my home. At first Dr. Davis and his staff seemed to be caring. However, Dr. Davis prescribed an antibiotic as a "defense" prescription "just in case" I developed an infection after the extractions, to take one day prior and five days after the procedure. One month following the extraction, within 48 hours of being in his practice for a 30 day follow up appointment, I became infected with a Clostridium difficile infection and multiple recurrent infections due to the antibiotic he unnecessarily prescribed, I was very ill for several months, lost 30 pounds, could not work. I was in the ER a few times for dehydration, transported by ambulance. When I was diagnosed with Clostridium difficile, I… left several messages for Dr. Leslie Davis to call me. He never called me back. Instead I received 2 calls from his business manager, Lisa, asking if I could keep my dental cleaning appt scheduled in a few days "because they didn't need to give me antibiotics." C. difficile is a serious antimicrobial threat, it infects 500k & kills 30k in the U.S. every year from antibiotics and Clostridium difficile spore contamination in doctors' offices. Healthcare providers should know you do not invite a patient for treatment in your dental practice with an active Clostridium difficile infection, they are infectious and can cause cross contamination in the dental practice making others sick. I advised Lisa I was infectious and just discharged from the ER at Banner Health Del Webb in Sun City West, AZ a short distance from their practice. Instead of a call back, Dr. Leslie Davis mailed me a rude and demeaning letter, August 2022, (shortly after I underwent a Fecal Transplant to save my life). His letter scolded me for not returning to their practice for the dental cleaning and treatment stating that Periodontal disease is not "curable" and implying I was an uncooperative patient. The fact was I couldn't return for the dental cleaning, I had been seriously ill with a life threatening Clostridium difficile infection for 4 months that he caused by inappropriately prescribing antibiotics. He also told me at our initial consult that I didn't have periodontal disease, there was no infection, I had an "occlusion" problem and needed braces. The Fecal Microbiota Transplant was $35,000 at Honor Health, not to mention the hospital ER visits, ambulance transport, urgent care visits for hydration, medications and multiple appointments to gastroenterology specialists, that toppled another $20,000. My health will never be the same before I underwent the treatment performed by Dr. Leslie Davis, and I was a very active healthy person before visiting Dr. Leslie Davis at Arizona Institute for Periodontics and Dental Implants. I now have Post Infectious IBS which has made it very difficult to eat. I was informed by infectious diseases experts and clinical pharmacists that Dr. Leslie Davis inappropriately prescribed the antibiotic for this procedure, it was not required and he did not follow the antibiotic guidelines of the American Dental Association. In fact there is zero science to support this type of prescribing for this procedure. It was very damaging to me as the patient to have him ignore my calls, and send me a rude letter. I realized by my phone conversations with his office manager Lisa, that Dr. Davis and his dental practice were not current on the serious nature of Clostridium difficile and antibiotic prescribing, I didn't feel safe going back to this practice. As a healthcare provider, I cannot recommend Dr. Leslie Davis at Arizona Institute for Periodontics and Dental Implants based on my experience here. Have been going here 10 years. He and his staff are caring, well qualified individuals. More concerned with saving your own teeth than making the $$$ on implants. He could have sold me implants 10 years ago and I would have done it. Knows having your own teeth are always better for your health in the long run. If at all possible, he will try to save your own teeth. I find him to be very personable and knowledgeable.
