Dr. Lewis Loren Kramer, MD

I've never written a review on a physician before, but felt compelled to for Dr. Kramer. He is clearly a bright, skilled, knowledgeable dermatologist on the Autism spectrum. I work with people on the spectrum, so I find his mannerisms rather endearing, whereas someone else might feel a bit uncomfortable. He is highly experienced and knowledgeable. We've had long, informative conversations where I've learned quite a lot. Yes, he struggles with eye contact, and displays speech mannerisms common to people I know who are on the spectrum - repeating comments or short sentences, interrupting himself, sometimes interrupting me. As time has gone on, he is more relaxed and displays those less often. Dr. Kramer is very thorough in the exams I've had, including a careful check of my scalp which no other derm has done without my asking (and I'm a blue-eyed blonde with a history of severe sunburns, so that should be automatic). He always explains what he observes, and has noticed things… that I did not, even during careful self-checks. In a nutshell, Dr. Kramer is a kind, intelligent doctor who, I suspect, has had unpleasant encounters with patients who do not understand him. I trust his expertise and judgement (he found things two other derms disregarded / passed over). Also, to be honest, I simply like him and feel rather protective of him. With my history of skin damage and problems, my choice of dermatologist can become a life/death issue. I trust Dr. Kramer to keep me safe from the repercussions of my bad choices regarding sun exposure during my youth.

One wierd dude.... Seen him 5 times in 3 years, and finally changed doctors. He's nice but is so extremely odd, and it just made me too uncomfortable. The nurses warned me, every time I had an appointment, asking if I'd seen him before and gently comparing him to Patch Adams, which helped, but it just got too weird. Dr. Kramer is elderly, which isn't a problem for me at all, but he just so very bizarre. His EXTREMELY nervous demeanor, him talking /babbling to the computer as he enters your information, his squirrely comments as he is examining you. If you ask him a question, he nervously babbles all over the place, won't make eye contact, and it's all just too much for me. I have had major melanoma twice, and I think that should warrant a very thorough examination, but he never examined any personal areas or my hair. He's sweet in his own strange way, but I think it might be time to hang up the hat.
