Dr. Linda Varrella Muir, MD

We have been seeing Dr. Muir for the past 4 yrs. Before Dr. Muir my daughter was in agony and on the verge of having a colectomy. We were referred to Dr Muir and she stabilized my daughter. She still has her colon and has been virtually symptom free for over 3.5 years. I highly recommened Dr. Muir

We have had superlative care with Dr. Muir. She knows her stuff, communicates well, and has taken grand care of us. We would recommend her to anyone with GI problems.

Our son, now 14 has been hospitalized 75-80 times since birth, primarily with bowel related issues. Dr. Muir was recommended to our family about a year and a half ago. I can't help wishing we had found her sooner. From the get go, she was unhurried, kind and really took into account who our son with disabilities was, as a person. She has never hurried through an appointment, or been dismissive of our concerns in any way. As you can imagine, we have had a lot of experience with physicians...there is a difference between those who are there for their job and you are just another patient ...and those who genuinely love what they do and give each patient dignity, respect and kindness. We struck gold when we found Dr Muir!

Crohns is a difficult disease and we are so glad we found Dr. Muir. Our daughter was immediately diagnosed after the endoscopy/colonoscopy performed by Dr. Muir. She has been caring, helpful and has gone out of her way to guide us in the correct care for our daughter. Her and her staff are available to me any time I have a question or just need to talk about my daughters health. I have had the chance to talk with people throughout the world with Crohns and wish they were all able to work with Dr. Muir. I believe there is one person leaving bad reviews that does not really have any children with health problems. I am upset as a mother with a sick child that someone would use a site like this or a caring doctor like Dr muir to try and undermine all that she does for our children. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Since Dr. Muir's arrival to the Doernbecher Pediatric Gastro group in Portland, and our family's first meeting with her, we have felt her compassion, intelligence and her persistance at finding out how to give the best treatment for our daughter who is diagnosed with Crohns/Colitis. Dr. Muir is respectful of our daughter's age as a teen and speaks directly to her to help her understand and take responsibility for advocating for herself. As parents we have also felt that she understands our long term concern over a chronic disease and has always been available for extra counsel. Her positive attitude and genuine interest in my daughter as a patient are obvious from the way she relates her experiences from her own practice and the most recent medical research to bring her the most appropriate care for her condition. We are thankful to be under the care of Dr. Muir and recommend her to parents who are searching for a reliable gastroenterologist for their child.

My son was a patient of Dr. Muir in Seattle, until she moved away. She was a kind and caring Doctor who made my son feel comfortable during his many visits with her, and not only spoke to me but also to my son. She took her time with us, answering our many qustions and we never felt rushed.

We took our then three year old son to see her. She told us after a colonoscopy at Swedish Hospital that he was fine. She was demeaning on the phone and actually told me she didn't have time for me. She was extremely rude to say the least. Our son now five had his entire large intestine removed and has had five surgeries and a horrible few years. She could have prevented all of it if she hadn't been so dismissive. She should not be practicing medicine. She should know what it is like to have the pain and suffering my son has had to endure. It changed the course of his entire life. I wouldn't trust her with any more innocent children.

I honestly do not understand the negative feedback for Dr Muir that has been left here. I don't know where my daughters health would be without the knowledge, care, & time Dr Muir has shared with our family. We met Dr Muir when she came to Spokane. The pediatric gastroenterologist my daughter had been seeing, since she was 2 years old, in Spokane, moved out of state & Dr Muir took over his practice. In doing so Dr Muir implemented clinics in the Tri-Cities, where we live. This was an enormous help to our community. When Dr Muir moved to Seattle, the clinic ceased to exist, because no other pediatric gastro specialist wanted to make the drive to the Tri-Cities. We followed Dr Muir to Seattle. We have now followed Dr Muir to OHSU in Portland. We will travel to keep Dr Muir as our daughters pediatric gastro specialist.My daughter responds well to Dr Muir & is actively involved in making decisions in her care. My daughter will be 13 years old this year, 2011. Dr Muir knows her health,… knows our family, treats us like family, & is always just a phone call away. When I call with questions & have to leave a message, I get a call from Dr Muir that day, usually within a couple hours of when I originally called. Dr Muir calls us if she has found something in research that could benefit our daughter. Dr Muir calls us in the evenings & on weekends & on some occasions holidays, when our daughter has been ill. She is devoted to her patients. The staff that works with Dr Muir is very friendly & helpful. When we call, they are compassionate, comforting, & very helpful. It has been this way in each of the three facilities we have been to with Dr Muir: Spokane, Seattle, & Portland. As a concerned parent, I greatly appreciate being treated like we matter each & every time we call.With all of my daughters & our families health issues, having a good relationship with our Dr is extremely important. If we didn't have the mutual trust and respect for each other, we wouldn't be with Dr Muir. I can not express how much we appreciate Dr Muir's professionalism, knowledge, care, compassion, & commitment towards our daughter. Dr Muir has watched her grow up right along with us. Dr Muir has told our daughter how proud she is of her for taking care of herself & for achieving life milestones. We highly recommend Dr Muir & always recommended family & friends to her.

Would not recommend at all. Seems to be preoccupied with personal matters and making money rather than taking care of children or listening.

Our experiences with Dr. Muir have been nothing short of awesome. Originally we went to Spokane's Sacred Heart hospital where my daughter was diagnosed, then here doctor moved to Seattle to work at Swedish. And of course we followed her all the way across the state. Dr. Muir was so incredably thoughtful and caring in the way she treated not only my daughter but the wife and I also, if any of us has any questions she always takes time to explain exactly what was happening. Dr. Muir has dropped everything she was doing just to see my daughter if we were in town and stopped by. Her bedside manner and not-so bedside manner is undisputedly the BEST we have ever seen in any hospital. We passed thru Seattle quite frequently and will miss just buzzing by to say hi to her. Swedish will never know what they are missing without having you on staff, but whoever picks you up should know that you really are a GODSEND. I would recommend her as highly as I can. We would follow Dr. Muir to the… ends of the earth if possible, that is how much of an impact her knowledge and professionalism and demeener has made on myself and my family.
