Dr. Carkner (formerly Umphrey) is deserving of recognition on this website. Having spent the majority of my professional life as a hospital executive of a major health system working with many hospital-based and private practice physicians, including recruitment of physicians on occasion, I can identify quality physicians. For my own care, I will collaborate with my primary care physician in choosing a specialist, verify state issued medical license, review where the physician attended medical school and did their internship, residency, and fellowship as applicable, review various medically related websites like Vitals.Com, hospital affiliations and websites, office or group practice websites, et al. I will ask health care consumers and seek input from patient caregivers and physicians. I take all that is learned from this research and apply the Pareto Rule with the objective of identifying those physicians in the top 20th percentile. Within the large cardiology group practice she… is affiliated with, Dr. Carkner is in the top 20th percentile. If you select her or have been referred to her, you will receive exceptional cardiac care within the limits and structure of what can be done in a large group practice with a heavy patient volume.
