Dr. Lisset Maria Suarez, MD

In Memory of Esther Delgado. I, the daughter of Esther Delgado, write this testimony in honor of my mother. Dr. Lisset Suarez was her Primary Care Provider (PCP). My mother had approved and available nursing service units, yet Dr. Suarez refused to sign the necessary documents that would have allowed her to receive nursing care at home. The doctor argued that my mother needed to attend an in-person appointment in order for her to sign these documents. However, when a patient is elderly and bedridden, unable to move, the PCP has the ethical and professional obligation to offer at least a virtual consultation. Dr. Suarez refused to provide that alternative, allegedly because Sunshine Health insurance did not adequately compensate for this type of service. It is important to note that my mother had the right to receive the required signature, as she had attended an in-person appointment within the last three months. Nevertheless, the service was denied to her. My mother passed away… without receiving the nursing care she needed, due solely to the doctor’s refusal. At no time did she show me or my family the slightest humanity, compassion, or willingness to provide medical support. Her actions lacked professionalism and, in my view, prioritized financial gain over the needs and life of her patient.
