Dr. Lois E Wald, PhD

Dr. Wald helped me tremendously through a particularly anxiety-ridden chapter of my life. She taught me how to use mindfulness techniques (she is also a long time yogi and mediation teacher)to be able to handle and minimize the very distracting negative thoughts that I could never seem to manage. Perhaps most importantly, I think she really heard me, and stayed present with me during some very painful moments in therapy. She is so excellent at what she does--I cannot recommend her enough if you are in or near Rye and need some quality psychotherapy.

She wanted me to watch YouTube videos of self-help healing speakers. Wasn’t that HER job?

What a horrid experience. I saw her twice and was beyond disappointed. I was filled with anxiety and depression and she made me worse. She spent 2 sessions @250.00 a piece taking a history on a legal pad (which was fine) with her pet who she referred to as "the party favor" at her feet (which wasn't so fine). She even remarked from her notes that my "voice was booming and then it would get soft," (what an astute observation when dealing with an anxiety-ridden patient, who among several issues was not getting over the death of her only child). She played right to my weaknesses asking the following questions: "Did I smoke? How much? Did I ever smoke more? Did I ever try to quit?" Then asked if I was always overweight. She was making a case for me being self-destructive. (If I were self-destructive I would not be seeking help on my own accord). After her note taking at the end of the second session she let out a sigh of "Whew! And told me "It would take a lot of work." How comforting!

Very Grounded- Realistic.. Good Listener..Has a very reflective/spiritual approach. Gets to the Point-
