Dr. Louis L Sobol, MD

I wish I had seen all these reviews too. Honestly I don’t think he likes what he’s doing for a living. He was mean. There’s no other word for it. He said to me “You come to me when your regular doctor is tired of dealing with you.” He was acting very rushed and impatient, I asked if he was going to “shove” the scope down my nose or be gentle, because of the way he was acting so rushed. He didn’t care, he said “That’s pretty much how it goes!” I don’t know why I didn’t leave then, I guess because it takes my whole Being just to get to a doctor let alone a specialist. He proceeded and told me to “hold still!” “Stop talking” & “stop saying E” which were all commands he had given me but spoke to me like a child. He was extremely rude. I had a bad head injury some years ago and am very glad I didn’t see him a few years back when it took me longer to comprehend everything. I have worked in the medical field for over 30 years and NEVER treated a patient so condescending. He should be fired!

Horrible, horrible, horrible. If you read the reviews and still make an appointment with him don't say you weren't warned. I unfortunately did not read the review ahead of my appointment! The gal who administered the hearing test was phenomenal. Her name is Eileen, she's the absolute opposite of Sobol. She was kind, personable, and thorough. I left not having any answers to why I was told to see an ENT, I got a hearing test and he dug in my ear till it literally hurt me and still hurts now hours later. No explanation whatsoever. I just keep shaking my head, I can't believe he is actually a legitimate doctor!!!! Read the reviews!!!! You're welcome.

DO NOT go to this office! Dr. Sobel was extremely rude, insulted his staff, and was not interested in hearing my son's issues. He claimed that the only thing ENT's do is tonsillectomies and adnoid removals, and that we should go to our pediatrician (our peds recommeded we go to him). He offered no support at all, and was mean to us. I can't believe this doctor is still in practice.

I really like going to Dr. Sobol and have referred a few buddies there too. I think he's a great doc and really spends a lot of time with me. I've had some ear wax issues and he's dealt with that with no problem at all. I'm grateful to him and his staff.

I had to switch my ENT doctor for location reasons so I asked around and several friends mentioned the name Louis Sobol in Troy. I did a Google search and found his Oakland ENT website and read about his experience. I have now seen him several times and was very impressed. He's a great doctor who seems to really stay up to date on new technology for medicine. His office staff was friendly and I always get in and out without having to wait long in the waiting room. I would definitely recommend Dr. Sobol just like people recommended him to me.

After a visit to the E.R. for a migraine, ear pain and dizziness, The ER doctor instructed me to go to an ENT because of fluid seen on the CT scan. I was a patient of a colleague in the same practice and my cause of my chronic ear infections was diagnosed at that same office. I was exhausted from the symptoms, no sleep due to steroids, dizziness, nausea and headache came back in the 2 days after the E.R. I hadn’t ever seen Dr. Sobol before and after I have, I am quite surprised he is practicing with a group with a good reputation. The nurse kindly turned off the light in the room for me while I waited for Dr Sobol. I was doing everything I could to not escalate the headache back to migraine level. Dr Sobol comes in the room, as he was saying rudely, “your going to have to sit up Miss and I need the light on.” I sat up and said just having a little trouble due to bad headache, while I sat up. Before he did ANYTHING, he said” this doesn’t look like a sinus issue to me, it looks… like it could be neurological.” I said my CT scan showed fluid so the doctor told me to go to an ENT, He said, “I looked at it and shows no fluid.” He LIED, the hospital couldn’t send the CT when I called because they didn’t have my release signed. It was never sent to them. I said you haven’t even examined me, and you know what it is?! He said”light sensitivity isn’t from sinuses.” I never said I had sensitivity to light, my sunglasses were on to help prevent escalation of the headache. I told him I have chronic ear infections which his colleague has discovered why. He paused and looked at the file for a second, then said. Oh yes, I looked at that CT scan ( done 2 years ago) and there is no fluid. Again I said you haven’t even examined me, He came over and looked in my right ear only, said “there is an infection I’d be happy to treat that, but there is no fluid!” I said I don’t want to be dealing with you, your extremely unprofessional and I will not pay for that. He followed me out of the exam room and said “ I have to insist you pay Miss!” I went to a different doctor the next morning, I have an inner ear infection, a lot of fluid in the inner ear and a sinus infection. I haven’t ever experienced anything like that and I’m in my 60’s! I was very confused as to why a doctor would treat a patient like that. Maybe because I was the last patient on a Friday and just didn’t want to deal with it? Whatever the reason, that’s not okay!

Don't listen to these negative reviews. I just got back from a visit with Dr. Sobol and he was very professional and kind and explained everything to me. I was scared to go to the doctor but he put me at ease and I was extremely satisfied. He is a fine doctor and appreciate him. Thank you Dr. Sobol. By the way the staff is wonderful, also.

My children, husband and I have all seen Dr. McBrien (and Dr. Nowak prior to her retirement) for many years (more than 25). They were always absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately Dr. McBrien had no openings for nearly 3 months and I could not wait. This was my second time encountering Dr. Sobol as a follow-up visit from a recent hospitalization. I really hesitated to make an appointment, due to my previous less than pleasant experience with him a few years ago. However, I needed to be seen soon, and they told me he was the only one with an opening quickly. This time was even worse than the previous time! He was abrupt, un-empathetic, didn't explain anything to me, and never even warned me before spraying me with some sort of numbing spray (which burned horribly) and then stuffing a camera down my throat! He told me that the ENTs that had seen me in hospital were 'wrong' and that I did not have the diagnosis that they and the hospital gave me, but he offered no other explanation for… the acute symptoms which sent me to the ER, and kept me in ICU for more than three days! I'm left with no answers as well as "burned" places on my tongue, lips and throat from whatever that spray was. I will not be returning. I saw Dr Sobol for sinus and ear pain. He practically yelled at me that he was an ENT multiple times. He also said that I should see my internist for my issues. Had I known that should have seen my internist I would have gone. Dr Sobol is curt, rude and demeaning. He belongs in research where he doesn’t have to deal with people.

I found Dr. Sobol to be very efficient and a great doctor. He may not spend more time then needed with you, but spends the amount of time necessary. My experience with him was very thorough and hopefully he may have saved my life......wish me luck!
