Dr. Luisa Marie Caparoula

I recently moved from Chicago to Virginia due to my husbands work. I have a fairly complicated medical history, specifically due to a particularly advanced case of deeply infiltrating endometriosis. I have found meds that helped, but most doctors weren’t comfortable prescribing them long term because there was a lack of literature on how they help endo. I’ve basically been my own guinea pig for the past 8 years. I knew upon meeting Dr. Caparoula that I liked her — she really listened, didn’t rush me, nor did I catch any eye rolls at my unconventional treatment — she actually was *interested*! She has since become my dr for everything except my pelvic exams. Seriously — she’s been better at treating my issues in the 2-3 months I’ve been seeing her than ANY gynecologist I’ve ever seen for my endo. I also really appreciated that she didn’t claim to “know” or “specialize” in endo, like so many drs do (when really it’s *incredibly* misunderstood & very few drs *truly* understand it). I… once read an excerpt in a book written by a dr I respect. It said that when trying to find a dr to help you with your care (for a chronic/complicated illness), to first find someone who treats you well — regardless of their area of expertise. At first that seemed silly to me, but after my few visits with dr C., I now understand why that’s so important. With chronic illnesses, especially ones like endo that have certain stigmas attached, you get used to the dr eye roll or scoff when you mention something *you* read about yourself. Dr Caparoula is the opposite of that kind of dr. Maybe being young & newer to the job helps keep her from getting burned out, I don’t know. But she has always been friendly, thoughtful, interested & helpful when I’ve talked to her. I never thought I’d be able to find such a good doctor here in VA, when I barely had that in Chicago, but I am SO happy I found dr C! I would recommend her to anyone — especially to those who are looking for someone with a good bedside manner. She’s truly an “expert” in my book!
