My son was born with volvulus(twisted intestines), without knowing we took him home from the hospital, only to return a little over 24 hours later. We took him to the emergency room in Tulsa, ok. Only to come to find out that he had a total blockage of his intestines. After so many tests and xrays, the nurses told me the pediatric surgeon would be with you shortly, which was Dr. Scherer. I was so scared about what was happening and in that situation and no one can promise anything, because no one really knows what can happen, except for he needed emergency surgery to open it up. In the scariest moment of my life Dr. Scherer assured us he'd operate as if it were his own child. I turned my very sick and dehydrated baby over to his care, not knowing the outcome. Hours pass, Dr. Scherer comes out from the surgery hall, with a soft smile, all says everything went perfect. I asked him if he was going to be a normal little boy like the other kids and be able to play and run. He said yes,… he'll get to be a normal little boy. In that moment, my life was held in his work. And his compassion and kindness that day gave me the glimmer of hope that is more than I could ever put into words. Now, my son is 19months and growing like crazy, he's extremely intelligent, walking at 10 months, extremely loving and already the teachers favorite. And has a beautiful healthy appetite! Thank you Dr. Scherer for being our angel that day. Just know a family out there is very thankful for you.
