Dr. Luigi Pascarella

My ENT referred me to Dr. Pascarella in 2017. Can’t get into complete story here, but had Subclavian Steal Syndrome, hearing every waking heartbeat for past 5 years, no pulse or BP in painful left arm which I dropped things from so had lost most use of. My left eye went temporarily blind occasionally for the past two years, but living alone I still drove. Dr. Pascarella ran tests verifying her diagnosis, also finding my left Coratid 100% blocked, the right 50% blocked. He planned my surgery, said to plan to be in the hospital 3 nights, but when I woke it was as a miracle! Peaceful quiet in my ears. His team came in to examine me. Perfect BP and pulse in left arm, and my grip returned to left hand the morning after surgery! I was ready to come home! The reason I said he saved my life takes thought. That reverse blood flow had been sustaining me since 2012, stealing blood from my left arm to feed my eyes and brain is logic. I was at the end of my rope when I got to Dr. Pascarella, who… surgically repaired it just in time. He stays in my prayers as I’m forever grateful. I’d trust him with any of my family or friends.

Dr. Pascarella is such a delight. As a physician myself at Duke, I sought out his opinion at UNC based on the recommendations and reputation this provider has among his peers. I was impressed with his depth of knowledge, how well he conveyed his thought process, and explained his approach to treating my condition. He has superb bedside manner and it is obvious that not only is he fully competent as a respected surgeon, but also cares significantly for his patients. I appreciate his integrated approach to surgery and working closely with a specialized physical therapy team, which is rare. One of the best provider encounters I've ever experienced. I definitely would trust him with my care.
