Dr. Milburn Douglas Mar, MD

Misdiagnosed with Bipolar 2, was over medicated with 8-9 different meds. The man is extremely arrogant and puts you down and berates you so you feel worse when you leave than when you came in. Narcissistic really.

Dr. Mar, despite hearing the same from many people, lacks insight into his "personality disorder", which manifests in unstable relationships with his customers, who seem to complain about the same problems again and again. He gives you a mood chart, guaranteed to make you crazy as you take your mood temperature and fill out a chart multiple times a day and thereby become obsessed with the subtle fluctuations in mood. It was silly, but it helped Dr. Mar predict what was going to happen next and make a "med change" or two or three or four or five or six because he could never actually help making anything better. In fact, he over-drugged me and made it much much worse and then he was an A-1 total and complete jerk about it, unwilling to listen to feedback, apparently I could have insight enough to fill out the mood chart but not to know that I felt worse after taking the drugs than every in my whole life. I was in a f-o-g by the time I stopped paying him that fat $150 bucks for my 20… minutes (nice Italian suits I bought him!). When I complained about the drugs he went off on me, inappropriately and like a child, really. That's when I realized he was in no position to help me until he got over himself. I'm much better now, have been for a long time, and he was wrong. I see I am not alone!

Unfortunately, I have to say that I would not recommend Dr. Mar to anyone. He was recommended to me by a patient's parent. He has NO bedside manner. He spends the majority of his appointment with you asking you questions that you have answered in you mood diary (ie. "tell me 1 out of 5 your sleep patterns, moods, crying, happiness, appetite, etc). If he looked at your mood chart at the beginning of the appointment you wouldn't have to spend the 45 minutes telling him what you have tracked and charted on your mood chart! The only person that is worthy of any time at his office is Katherine, the rn. She does a great job and compensates for Dr. Mar's short comings. He typically charges $150/monthly and he just isn't worth it. In my experience he will go out of his way to make you feel bad about yourself. I often left his office questioning myself . I have never had a problem with any other physician(psychiatrist or not) aside from him. He can be combative if you question him… about anything. In my opinion, he needs to retire and take up fly fishing full-time. I never walked away from a visit feeling good about myself or the treatment I was receiving. There are far too many psychiatrists out there that can treat you with a kind bedside manner. There is no reason to subject yourself to the inadequate behavior that Dr. Mar provides!!! Yes, Katherine can refill your prescriptions promptly and she can schedule your appointments easily, but when it comes down to it you need to interact with Dr. Mar, and he is not someone who is easy to get along with!!! I hope this helps future would be patients. BEWARE...there are many other well educated psychiatrists that will make you feel at ease, unlike Dr. Mar!

Dr Mar is an outstanding doctor he cares about his patients a great deal. He is very flexible about my needs and making sure they are met.

I completely agree with the person who said "go along with him or expect him to lash out." He has done so when I've questioned my treatment (not him) and explained bad side effects of medications he's prescribed as if I was attacking him personally. Most of the time, he spends half the visit talking about himself.

Very un-personable and was neat easy to work with.. kept me on medications that caused serious side effects. I would not recommend him to anyone.

Pretty much lacks compassion. In my experience, dismisses any link between hormones and the effect on me. And either go along with his program or expect him to lash out.

Dr. Mar is a wonderful doctor. He always follows up with a patient, is quick to respond to any concerns that may arise between visits, and, best of all, doesn't rush you through appointments. He hears you out and addresses your concerns. He works with you on trying to find meds with minimal side effects, if you need them. A great doctor and I highly recommend him.

Great, trustworthy, there for you, and very caring, good with meds, and works with you on care.
