My son had been seeing him for 6 years and I felt that Dr. Rajana was very caring and helped my son get to a better place, where academically he was on target. Since things were improving, on our last session we both agreed to trial him off of medication and see where he stood without it, and if need be, I would contact the doctor and we will revise the plan. Then of course, a two months later, COVID happened and no one was being seen in the office and also my son reverted to remote learning for the last 2 months of the school year that was left. I wasn’t sure where he would fall without medication and having to alternate the traditional form of learning, however I tried it for the beginning of this school year. Realizing now (after a few months of the next school year) that he has been struggling with focus and organization, I decided to contact the office. I called to get an appointment with him once again to discuss resuming services. The secretary informed me that since it had… been a few months that the doctor last saw him, he would have to discuss this with the doctor prior to giving me an appointment. I did not receive a follow up call so I decided to call a few days later. Still no response from doctor. The secretary stated she would reach out to him again. On my third attempt, I got an unexpected surprise. The secretary informed me that my son’s case was closed and that since the doctor is not taking on new cases, my son would not be seen. Just to make things clear, we had left his case open as per our previous appointment, and I did not receive a letter or call indicating that his case would be closing. Very unprofessional, if you ask me. My son is a person with feelings and he should be treated with more respect than that. You don’t just abandon a child that has been under your psychiatric care from 4th grade to now 10th grade. I can’t believe that a doctor can function this way and not even have a formal exit call or session. I didn’t even get to speak to him about all this. You don’t do to people what you wouldn’t want done to one of your family members. All the work put into this psychiatrist with my son and now to pick up the pieces and begin with someone new...very heartbreaking. The look on my son’s face when I hung up, I will never forget it. He truly made us both feel like we were dollar signs to him all along and not individuals that he truly wanted to help. Be aware that this may happen to your child also. Unethical. I plan on reporting him for this.
