Dr. Manjunath B Benakanahalli, MD

A couple of years ago I took over the primary care for my mother from my sister who had a massive heart attack. I took my mother to her primary care physician to learn how to provide the care that she needed as my sister could not bring me up to date. At that time my mother was being treated for diabetes, depression, dementia, and COPD, among other illnesses. Her doctor was rude and acted as if our visit with him was a disruption of his day. When asked about the testing my mother underwent to diagnose dementia and diabetes, he said “she has dementia and diabetes because I said so.” I fired him on the spot. Her pulmonologist referred us to Dr. Benakanahalli (known as “Dr. Ben”) for her primary care. Inasmuch as I worked in the legal field for 22 years, I was able to reach out to experts we used in litigation to learn as much as we could about Dr. Ben before hiring him for my mother. All that I learned of him was positive. During our first visit with Dr. Ben, he conducted a… preliminary test and determined that my mother did not suffer from dementia and prescribed blood test to determine the remaining illnesses for which she was being treated. The medicine used for dementia has a wide range of side effects, including, but not limited to, depression; it also makes one as mean as a rattlesnake. The treatment for COPD sometimes includes prednisone; which presents high sugar levels vis a vis diabetes. Dr. Ben ceased all the treatments except for the treatments for COPD which was under the supervision of her pulmonologist. For the few months before my mother’s death, she was finally coherent and able to enjoy her family. To this day, my brothers and sisters still thank me for my mother’s best health in years before she died. I, of course, refer them to Dr. Ben. My mother felt so well that she traveled to Alabama to visit other family members. Unfortunately, she fell ill with the flu and was hospitalized in Alabama. While in the hospital she had multiple strokes all at once and succumbed to her lung disease. Today I am proud to say that Dr. Ben is my primary care physician. When he sees my eyes glaze over because I do not understand something he says, he breaks out the crayolas and teaches me. I may not follow all his instructions, but that’s on me.

We find Dr Ben to be a very caring thoughtful person. Doesn't rush thru the appointment. Listens to your questions. We especially appreciate the fact that he attends his patients at the hospital. Very knowledgeable too. Feel lucky to have had him referred to us by Dr Sammy.

Never saw this title associated with a Dr before but that’s how he was listed on my insurance site. After being examined the very first time I truly understood the title. In Dr ‘Ben’ you will find a dedicated and brilliant professional as dedicated to your emotional and mental health as your physical. His leadership and influence is more than evident in his staff who one will find as dedicated and compassionate as the Dr himself. If you need a Dr pick any body BUT if you need a true healer, a hospitalist, come to Dr Benakanahali!

Very caring and competent physician. He listened to my concerns very intently. I have referred many of my neighbors and friend to him. Dr Ben is our family doctor. If a referral is needed; he send you similar competent and caring providers. If you want a doctor that has your best interest at heart; Dr Ben is the one.

I have been with Dr. Ben for years and believe him to be everything you hope your choice for a primary doctor will be. Yes, you probably may have a wait a little to be seen but that's because he doesn't rush through his patients. He takes time to listen to concerns and questions and genuinely cares. Highy recommend.

Dr. Ben was recommended to me by another like me who also works in the EMS system as many of us first responders can be very particular about our doctors. He is my favorite personal physician I have had. His office staff are excellent and keep you just as informed as he does. He follows his patients well and listens to them. He is also a good teacher for others he mentors during their medical degree education programs. I have worked in EMS for 15 years and Dr. Ben is one of the best I know in internal medicine.

My Wife and I have been Dr Ben for approximately 5 years. we have moved to Sarasota but we still drive to Brandon to see him and its worth it in every way. He is very professional, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. He takes a sincere interest in his patients. We highly recommend him and appreciate what he has done for us!

Dr Benakanahalli has been my physician for many years thanks to my wonderful mother whom was seeing him first. He is very patient, takes the time to explain everything. What direction your health needs to be taking. Love the office staff. Awesome Physician.
