Dr. Manoj Makhija, MD

Dr Makhija and his staff are very professional.

I met Dr. Mahkija at Banner Rehabilitation Hospital West. I was there because l had broken my right leg, my shin bone, in 3 places. I got very light headed and dizzy in my laundry room, pasted out into a space 3 feet wide breaking my leg on the way down. He was my attending physician. I liked him right away because he listened to what I had to say. When I told him this, his first question was how long has this dizziness been going on. I said 2 or 3 weeks. He rechecked my vitals, told me I had low blood pressure and said he wanted research it and he would see me the next day. That next morning he asked how long had I been taking my current dosage of BP meds. 3 years. He asked if there had been any significant change to body resently or other changes in other meds. I told him I'd lost 75 lbs in the last 8 months due to A COPD diagnosis, told him I had 70% of my of my lung capacity. I was 315 lbs back then. I lost the weight because I felt 70% lung capacity was not going to support that… much weight. He told me my BP meds were for a heavier person than I am now and that it would have to be adjusted. He said the current dose was driving down my BP causing the dizziness and that was dangerous for me. So he proceeded to adjust and changed some of my BP meds and normalized my BP and explained how and when those meds should be taken. After a few days, no more dizziness. My then current PCP had not explained this to me when I complained of dizziness to him. I told my daughter I think I found my next PCP and explained his treatment and that I was in good hands. I liked his bedside manner, but more than that I really like his confidence and follow through. He hangs in there and verifies the results before he moves on. I asked him if he had his own practice and would he be my new PCP. He said yes to both. I was there for 16 days. Saw him everyday. When I left I called Humana and they changed him to my new PCP. Dr. Mahkija is thorough, blunt, tenacious, listens to you, does what says and he's confident. He will inspire confidence in you too. I like those qualities in a doctor. On my first visit to his office, after he finished my check up, I complained about swelling and pain in my right foot on the same broken leg. He looked at it and felt it and bluntly said it was Gout. He said he knew the symptoms and prescribed meds, and told me to take them for 5 days and my foot would get better. 4 days later my foot was almost normal and no more pain. What else can I say? My experience with Dr Makhija has been good thus far. I have been seeing him for a little over a year. He got to the root of a couple of medical issues that prior physicians had failed to address. Once determined he went way above and beyond to get me to the proper specialists and surgeons. I think we all need to be proactive when it comes to our medical care and in my case Dr Makhija was a good listener and a problem solver. After searching for a new PCP for five years, due to my former PCP retiring, I feel I have finally found a doctor who not only I can have confidence in, but who cares enough to go that extra mile.

Love the convenience of this office. I’ve seen Dr. Makhija for over five years - my husband sees him along with extended family. Generally my visits are pretty quick but not rushed. Office staff is always helpful.

MAKHIJA, MANOJ is completely unprofessional. He is unwilling to dig deep and advocate for his patients. If you aren't an easy case- he doesn't want you as a patient and will DROP you. Extremely unprofessional, incompetent and unprofessional. He preys on a population who can't advocate for themselves. Don't waste your time.

As a retired RN, I knew this physician when he was a hospitalist and considered him fairly good. My opinion of him changed when, I and my husband needed to establish with a new PCP due to insurance.I found him negligent in his exam practices with myself but even more with my husband. My husband had not seen a physician in a good 7 years when he had his initial visit with Dr Makhija to establish and for a physical. Dr Makhija kept asking him what he was there for as he sat in front of his computer. The extent of his physical exam included listening to his heart and lungs with his stethoscope. During the interview portion, he failed to ask about his family history. He failed to ask specific questions of symptoms he may have regarding each system which could clue him in to possible problems. For the exam, he failed to look in his ears where he would have found a large piece of wax causing my husband to be hard of hearing. He failed to do a skin assessment on a man who works outside in… the Sun all day 5-6 days per week. On a 59 year old man, he failed to check his prostate or provide him even with a script to have a PSA lab drawn on him, etc etc. He only ordered 2 basic lab tests. When my husband followed up with him a couple of weeks later to review the lab results, he was never informed that his cholesterol was elevated (his new MD told him based on those lab results). My husband per my instructions told Dr Makhija, “my wife is a nurse and is questioning why you didn’t check my Prostate”? In reply, Dr Makhija told him, “tell your wife, the Nurse that unless the patient makes complaints, we don’t check the Prostate routinely any more.” His wife the nurse had worked a significant amount of time on a urology unit and knew that was untrue. I recommended my husband go out of network to a physician who was thorough with his yearly physicals. He was the one to find the large wax ball in his ear and also noted how it obstructed his hearing. He did the routine digital Prostate exam and found it enlarged and irregularly shaped. He had a PSA exam done and the results were considered high for a man of 59 but would have been ok for a man of 70. He referred him to a urologist who ended up doing a Prostate Biopsy in which 1 of the samples came back positive for Cancer. Stay away from this doctor, he’s negligent in his responsibilities towards his patients.

Rarely have to wait more than 10 minutes. Listens to what you are saying and answers questions so you can understand. Excellent MD. Would highly recommend.
