Dr. Manuel Villagarcia Villafranca

I've been going to Dr Villafranca for a number of years. I appreciate his manner, expertise, and ability to empathize. His calm nature helps to keep me calm. He takes time during my visit and suggests very helpful coping exercises. He and his office manager are blessings.

I, first, met Dr. Villafranca in 2003 after an episode that landed me in the hospital. He was warm and encouraging. He was also thorough with my diagnosis. At the time, he did not accept my insurance, but I fought them to, at least, reimburse me for my visits. They did. Over the years, I've gone to him as an outpatient, as well as in his office. He, and Alice, are still warm, and encouraging. It's now 2014 and I am still a patient of his. My visits are, now only, every 2 months. I've went from a frantic NYC professional, to a closed off homebody, to a new business owner in a field that I love. Dr. Villafranca, and Alice, has been their every step of the way. While there is no perfect office, there is no perfect patient either. We must be assertive enough to ask the questions that plague us, share our concerns & hesitations, as well as say what works and what doesn't. One of my greatest accomplishments is earnestly learning how to be assertive, over being passive-aggressive.… Understand: I'm still learning...but it's a process. My only suggestion to the office would be to actively work with patients other doctors, and more timely follow up on insurance matters. I hope my review helps someone else with finding a doctor...any doctor. Your input is needed...but also your respect; give it and make it clear that you want it in return.

I found Dr. Villafranca to be very accurate and effective. There was always a long line of patients before the negative review below came out. I personally observed that he gave everybody and emergency cases priority. I totally disagree with the review below. I have been seeing him for more than 10 years and he never followed up after visit. It was up to me to schedule followup, contrary to the claim of the negative reviewer. By the way, I have never taken illegal drugs. I don't know if the reviewer below has the credentials and training or to judge that follow-ups were not necessary. Seems like that the reviewer was meddling with the treatment of the reviewer's daughter. If the reviewer were competent to be a parent the reviewer should have least tried to get a second opinion from another mental health provider if the follow up by were necessary. If the reviewer were against the follow up, did the reviewer discourage the daughter from going to follow up visits, visits that… could have been necessary to save the reviewer's daughter's life, that is if the reviewer really cared about the daughter's health and life? Thanks to Dr. Villafranca, since a few years ago and have been doing very well, Since a few years ago, I have been free of mental health prescription medication that another mental health provider, Dr. X had prescribed to me. I have improved a lot since I stopped taking those medication prescribed by that Dr. X. My cardiologist also advised me not to take those medication prescribed by Dr. X. I totally disagree with the review: "The most memorable thing about Dr. Villafranca is that he gave my daughter enough Oxycodone to take her life after coming out of a drug rehabilitation hospital. Oh yes, he was prompt and his follow-ups were not necessary."
