Dr. Marc Joseph Philippon, MD

I am an Orthopaedic Surgeonin the midwest. Without hesitation I took a member of my family to Dr Phillippon in Vail for treatment of a labral tear when the injury peresented itself. . Ultimately operations were required on both hips for labral tears over a period of 3 years. She did very well immediately, played college sports and now five years later has had no pain. As an Orthopaedic surgeon i knew and know Dr Phillippon to be the best at what he does in the world. He also is a kind and compassionate doctor. Their relatively small clinic provides personal attention in a world of sometimes mass produced impersonal care. I routinely refer patients to him and all have been happy with their care and all have done well.

If you suspect you have FAI, don't go to anyone else. I heard too many stories of previous failed surgeries he fixed. You don't want to go through that painful rehab multiple times. The only problems are getting the first appointment and surgery scheduled. There is a long line, unless you are a pro athlete. Which makes sense for this type of injury/condition. But it's worth the wait. He and his team are superb. They are all extremely kind and very professional at the same time. My hips were in a terrible state. I suspect that nobody else could have fixed them. Doctors I saw before him had told me that I would no longer be able to run, play tennis, soccer and football and even skiing even after surgery. I skied 4 months after the first surgery, and trust me I don't ski bunny slopes... After getting the second surgery I can now run and play soccer again with no pain from the joint. You need to be prepared to work really hard for months after the surgery, but it pays off. I wish all… doctors were like him.

My son had two hip surgeries this past year after years of hard physical workouts during college football seasons. He was misdiagnosed by the team's orthopedic doctors and had been doing various treatments and PT to no avail. He was devastated to think he might not be able to play after devoting so many years to the discipline and time sacrifices necessary of a college athlete. Dr. Philippon immediately diagnosed the real problem and was direct and honest about what it might take to fix it. Although he does not play for a "big time" football school and we are not celebrities, Dr. Philippon and his staff treated my son as though he was. During the initial treatments to try to prevent having the surgery, he and his staff even did a treatment on a Saturday, knowing that my son's ability to play this pass season could hinge on it. We can't say enough good things about him, and especially his staff - there isn't even one small criticism. My son is fully recovered and just started fall… football camp this week, feeling physically better than he has in years, thanks to Dr. Philippon and his extremely dedicated and professional staff. dr. philipon misdiagnosed my problem. did two operations that made the hip much worse and ended up creating chronic problems with the surrounding muscles. I am now fairly disabled. Good bedside manner BEFORE the surgeries, and very inattentive AFTER the surgeries.

As an Emergency Room Medical Doctor I only wanted the best. Clearly Dr. Philippon is The best Hip Arthroscopic Surgeon in the World. He sought after by professional athletes, weekend warriors, and others that demand exceptionalism. Every hips surgeon I seen said to me that they trained under Dr. Philippon so that is who operated on my hip. It too me a long time to get an appointment but it was worth the wait. If Dr. Philippon operates on your hip you definitely should have two weeks of post op physical therapy at Howard Head Clinic.

I can't say enough about Dr. Philippon and his staff!Before coming across the Steadman-hawkins clinic in Vail, CO I had seen 14 different orthopedists without a diagnosis. After two botched hip procedures, done by local surgeons, I was determined to find the very best. All of my searches led to Dr. Philippon (and rightly so!). Since his clinic in Colorado was nearly a 13 hour drive from my hometown, we were able to fedex MRI and X-ray reports to him. Within a week, we already had a response and an appointment made for evaluation. Dr. Philippon did procedures on both of my hips with positive outcomes. Surgery on my right hip was extremely complex due to the two previous operations, but he was able to repair it without a problem. Even though he sees professional athletes on a daily basis, there is no preferential treatment. He spends as much time as needed with you during each appointment, and you never feel rushed.Overall, he is caring, professional, and gets the job done right, the… first time! Dr. Philippon truly has everyone's best interests at heart. I am so thankful for him and his staff.

Dr.Philippon is a magician with a scalpel. He diagnosed and treated me very quickly and with great care. His staff was as friendly and helpful as could possibly be. If I had any complaint about the staff, it would be with the Surgical Coordinator Meghan. She never followed up on what she said she would; I had to call and Email several times before I ever got a response...by that time she didn't remember who I was. Overall, I give the Steadman Clinic an A+. One more thing, if you're lucky enough to choose your Physical Therapist, choose Brooke. She's absolutely outstanding!

This guy knows his stuff and his bedside manner is uncommon for such a world renowned physician. Most importantly, he fixed my daughters hip and she was back playing soccer at the college level in no time. Would highly recommend.
