Dr. Marci Wexler Silverman, MD

My 3 year old daughter had an appt today at the Deer Park location. Not only did they leave me in the office for 45 minutes, Dr. Silverman then sent her assistant to tell me she will not be evaluating my daughter because she has a croupy cough. They were sorry but they can accommodate me for another day. I called her primary doctor and they suggested I ask to speak to the doctor myself or a supervisor. I asked to speak to Dr. Silverman and get assistant came back and said she will not come to speak to me; she was not available. This was my appt time so I don't know what she could have been doing. The assistant told me she will not speak to me because my daughter was sick. I told them this was very unprofessional of them to cancel. They again said they could accommodate me, so I asked for Saturday. The assistant said no, they don't work Saturdays. This was definitelynot accommodating to me and as I walked through the office, the assistant began to follow me around the office. … They were very unapologetic and not sympathetic to my situation. Not even a word, nothing. I would have rather her start evaluating her and if her cough complicated the exam, then make av decision. I was very upset about how my daughter and i were treated there. I would never recommend this office to anyone.

I was really disappointed with this visit. We are going somewhere else. My 6 y/o son is being evaluated for ADHD for inattention at school in K and now in 1 st grade. We spent about an hour in her office. She spoke to my son once. ONCE!! How are you to know how a child behaves without speaking to him? She didn't do anything with him like ask questions, color a picture or administer any neuropsychological testing. She examined him. But just his heart, lungs and belly. Thats funny, I didn't know she was a pulmonologist as well! SHE DID NOT CHECK HIS NEURO STATUS. See specialties below. Specialties: Pediatric Developmental Behavioral Health - Board Certified Neurodevelopment Disabilities - Board Certified Pediatrics - Board Certified My husband and I are both Physician Assistants so we know that her exam should most certainly include that if not anything. She was wishy-washy. For example ('Yeah, sure you can do that') She pushed meds the first time we saw her and this time… as well. When I asked her about the long term side effects of meds like Concerta or Adderall, she tells me 'Success' with a smirk. WOW! Moving on. She did a disservice to my son.

While dr. Silverman spent quite a while with us, asking questions, she barely observed our son. If the issue or diagnosis is very obvious than I'm sure she is fine, but with our son symptoms are mild yet she threw out 3 diagnosis that were so off just based on one or two questions. For example..."my son is rigid at times, likes things a certain way". Her assessment "looks like some OCD going on". He is 3 years old! It is so easy to pathologize a child yet no one can give you real good concrete suggestions on how to help outside of medicine and maybe some OT. Luckily my husband and I know enough to not jump to labeling our son. Nice doctor but in general, be careful about someone looking to label your child just by asking a parent to fill out a subjective checklist. I guess our expectations were too high but medicine is medicine after all.

After being blown off by doctor after doctor who did not seem to have the time to really look at our daughter, we finally found Dr. Silverman. She is the first doctor who really spent time with us and spent time with our daughter to make sure that she was given an accurate diagnosis. She and her nurse practitioner are real advocates for the children they work with and made sure that we had any documentation needed to get our daughter her needed services. Our daughter is very significantly delayed and medically involved, so it is absolutely baffling how many so called specialists blew her off. Al, I can say is thank goodness for Dr. Silverman!

Dr. Silverman is wonderful. However, after the initial visit the problems begin. If you need to get in touch with the doctor, in our case the medication wasn't right, it takes them forever to call you back. You will never reach a live person and you may have to leave several messages which on one occasion my husband had to go there in person to speak to them. Follow up visits is with a nurse practioner who is very nice but even with her it is difficult reaching her if you have questions or a problem.
