Dr. Marcy Janice Abel, MD

Dr. Abel surgically went in to replace my battery in my Interstim. When I got home, the device did not work. When I went for my post-op, the Rep had a hard time getting it to turn on & when it did, I told her this one didn’t feel like the last one. I have been back many times and have been charged unknowingly every time I went in to have this fixed and Dr. Abel never took time to really listen and blew me off. Via phone last week Dr. Abel said perhaps I should turn off the device and try Botox because she is the leading Doctor in this procedure in Nashville and it is highly unlikely she made a mistake. I then saw a Device rep last week in Atlanta & they were astounded and said I can be helped & they never charge for reprogramming until after they know the device is working for the patient. I was blown off by Dr. Abel saying no surgery is guaranteed when I know what my device should feel like. She is obviously more about the money these days than helping loyal patients like me.

Dr. Abel’s office fit me in quickly for a last minute appointment, and I appreciated that. Her nurse was also very personable and helpful. Unfortunately, Dr. Abel herself seemed very rushed. She did point me in the right direction as far as what tests needed to be done to confirm my condition, but I felt that she didn’t take adequate time to explain what to expect before she quickly hurried off to the next patient. Then, the office staff scheduled me for the wrong procedure (I was supposed to have a nuclear medicine renal scan done, and they scheduled me for a renal ultrasound). When I showed up for my test the following week, I found out from the tech that they were not able to do the nuclear medicine scan that I needed done at that location. This left me scrambling to try to get it done somewhere else quickly as I had already made plans for babysitters, etc. that day. When I called Dr. Abel’s office, they didn’t even offer an apology, and after making some attempts to reschedule,… they said that I would have to wait and get it done another day because nothing was available. I called around myself and finally found a hospital with helpful staff who could fit me in that day. The worst part of it all was that after the test was completed, Dr. Abel never got back to me with the results. My husband and I both called several times and left messages to no avail. Eventually, we went and picked up a copy of the report ourselves and took it to another doctor. We were not impressed with the way Dr. Abel’s office operates, and will definitely not be back.

Dr. Abel was knowledgeable, professional, and she took care of my problem. I would return to see her, even though I have to drive two hours . She is a skilled surgeon, and followed up with me for over a year afterward. I highly recommend her.

Person answering hung up on me; I called back, she was very rude, had major attitude. Then had nerve to wish me a good day. Like Dr. Abel, don't like her call staff! Also, could not get an appt within 3-4 post-op recomme dation.

I highly recommend Dr. Abel for any female urology needs. She is fast, explained the options for treatment and surgery. The surgery was performed as she described and was very successful! The office staff is friendly and competent.

Had to wait about an hour before be called back. Another hour and one half waiting in the room. Saw Dr Abel for 10 minutes. Have called twice in two week period to have a recommendation for a therapist. No calls returned. I will not be returning to this office.

I had been in agony with the effects of a dropped bladder. She fixed it 5 years ago and i am still having zero problems with it now.

I was referred to Dr. Abel by my Gynecologist who thinks very highly of her. Unfortunately, I was unable to see her and was seen by her P.A. (Andrea McDaniel). Andrea seemed to be very friendly and knowledgable. I was not dissatisfied with her at all. Now the STAFF is another story! The young ladies that worked directly with Andrea were great. But I was very disgusted while waiting to go back for my appointment. A sweet old man thought he had left something in the restroom and asked the nurse for help...she immediately rolled her eyes (for everyone in the waiting area to see) and was extremely rude to him (I suppose she was trying to leave for her lunch break and this man was an inconvenience for her). ANYWAY...I had a return appointment scheduled last month. A girl called me to cancel it because the P.A. was sick. That was fine...but I asked if it would be possible to see Dr. Abel considering I had already taken off of work and this is a two hour drive for me. Needless to say, the… girl told me she would check and call me back...this was a month ago and I still haven't heard a thing. I'm well aware I'm not the only patient because I also work at a physician's office...so I attempted to communicate with them through the patient portal so not to bother them with phone calls. All I asked for was that they submit ONE document into my chart so that I could take it to my new provider...this was three weeks ago...still nothing. This place is a joke. The providers are probably very good...but I felt like the staff were a bunch of students who really had no experience with patient care (with the exception of a few). Oh, I almost forgot about the extremely rude Asian lady at the checkout desk...wow.

I can't recommend this doctor. She was nice, but I need competent. On my few visits, Dr Abel was always double booked. You will barely see her. Arrogant is a polite way to describe her work. After I had out patient surgerywith Dr Abel, I came in for my follow up. Her physician assistant met with me and set up a future plan. MANY phone calls later, I learned that Dr Abel- who could not be bothered to attend my follow up- disregarded everything her PA said to me, and blew off my pain. The office was to scared to tell me the news. Good grief. I told the office I EXPECTED the doctor to call me after such chaos. "She's busy", they said. Arrogant. If she can't call me now, why would I pursue any more surgery with her? Please read these reviews carefully. i lost time and money; and I'm one of her lucky patients.

Dr Abel is gentle and sensitive. Much appreciated.
