Dr. Maria Jean Canizares, MD

Had an appointment this morning at 8:30 and was on time. The office was dark, no one there. I called and got the answering machine. I did leave a message requesting a call back. I am done with this office and doctor. My time is more valuable than that. I will find another doctor.

NEGATIVE Stars. no covid precautions, 1h and 15 min past my appt time. absolute disregard for human decency when taking images of my body- 4 people with cameras and lights and a sharpie??? no time for explanation and diagnosis review, gave me a black and white picture diagram of "possible" conditions. Took more than my copay to satisfy my out-of-pocket deductible requirements with no notice up front and no paperwork to confirm before asking for payment. DO NOT waste your money or time to go to this clinic!

Not impressed. She talks super fast, wipes patient mole sites off with gauze that she then throws all over on the floor for her assistants to pick. So unneccessary, treats her staff like peons. Billing dept. Is a joke! Too many other caring Dermatologists out there to choose from!

You have to pay $150 to just see the doctor. She seems thorough but rushed. They aren’t up to date with technology and actually sent a bill asking for me to provide my credit card number, secid, expiration date and signature on a paper form and wanted me to send it in the mail. No way! They NEVER answer when I call, so it is impossible to pay over the phone. Very unprofessional. There are plenty of dermatologist in the area. I plan to go to anyone but her.

They do not answer their phone. Dr Canizares is not thorough in her evaluations. Takes little time with patients. She did not get all of a spot I was concerned with. I could see she did not remove tissue in the area I identified. I had to go back for additional tissue removal snd I was billed for it. I was billed for rework. No confidence in her practice.

I have gone to Dr. Canizares a few times now for biopsies which have come back positive for melanoma. I am thankful for the prognosis but that is where the gratitude ends. She simply does not care about her patients and will tell you a scripted line about not having time to answer any of your questions unless you ask while she's working on you. I have SKIN CANCER and have questions. She's a doctor and has no time to answer them? Her staff isn't any better with the same egos and scripts handed down to them. Patients are in and out like a sweat shop with doors slamming in the hallway. The wait room is painted black and is super tiny, filled with people coming and going, and the receptionist keeps her little sliding glass window shut until she's ready to do her job (Who does that?). This office is more of a business than a health care office so that is the first strike against them. The second strike is the upfront charge they will charge you if you have a high deductible, even if you met… your deductible. They will also roll over any leftover charges from previous visits to your upfront costs at the next visit, sometimes several $100, instead of sending you a bill like everyone else. What would happen if someone doesn't have that money available at the time? Send them away? Again, it's nothing more than a business to them. Third and final strike was being told that my expressions with their poor practice and wait time was threatening to others in the waiting room, lying about things I supposedly said that were simply not true. I've seen similar things happen at DMVs and this office is the equivalent to one. This shouldn't happen at an office for skin cancer patients already dealing with the stress of their conditions. Everyone in this office should be ashamed of themselves and I cannot wait to find another doctor who actually takes the time to listen and doesn't rip me off in the process.

She’s the definition of heartless. I’ve never met anybody especially a physician with no heart or soul. She runs a sweat shop all about the money, her staff is intimidated by her which she thrives off. Barking orders and these young women jump to her every move.

Found TWO melanomas on me. Saved my life. I owe my life to Dr. Canizares

Admin./Receptionist is kind and efficient. The wait wasn't bad at all. Office is clean. Those Nurses are a well oil machine for sure! I'll admit, at first it felt like a clown car had just emptied into the room, lol. Nurses everywhere, zipping around. Every one of them was friendly, kind, and compassionate...but getting the job done. I realized that's exactly WHY they didn't have a 6 month wait to get in to see her, even being a new patient. ( I had some spots that had me worried, since learning 2 family members have had skin cancer issues, so I didn't want to wait 6 months to get in to see a Doctor.) I found Dr Canizares "bedside manner" to be caring, compassionate, personal yet professional. No, she didn't sit and chat with me for an hour. I can gab with the best of 'em. What she did take the time to do was put my mind at ease and assure me that no matter what the outcome, that it would be alright and that she and her staff were going to take great care of me. That's exactly what… they did. She told me what she thought was iffy, and what wasn't. But she could remove them IF they bothered ME. I appreciated that. If I had to pick something to complain about, it would be the waiting room. A room that small shouldn't be painted so dark. Its like a decorated cave. That's just my inner Joanna Gains coming out, lol.
