Dr. Maria Ada Cortez, MD

DR CORTEZ IS AN EXCELLENT DR AND I RECOMMEND HER TO THE YOUNG AND OLD.

She was straight Foward, but not polite. I'm pregnant and my emotions are high. She condemned me for not knowing the last day of my last period, and for being overweight. I've never had blood pressure problems, and she told me flat out... That I was going to get high blood pressure ( how dare you) She told me I had 2 walk 2 miles a day, even though i work walking everyday, and tried to put me on a diet of steamed veggies, fish, with no salt. No spice. Nothing. She did not allow my husband in the room for my exam, and she was so rough with me for the exam that I wanted to cry. I most definately will not be back there. Dr was rude, and I didn't appreciate how my husband and I were treated. My new dr is amazing, and I'm glad to not to have to see Dr Cortez again.

I had dr cortez for my last pregnancy, and a girl i worked with said she used to work for cortez and that she would guarantee that Cortez would tell me i had herpes. she made a joke out of it and she said she is also good for putting people on bedrest. I asked her why she said the herpes comment and she said that Cortez literally told every one of her patients they had herpes and she said that she thinks that Cortez just mistakes razor bumps and things like that for herpes.. i thought it was weird but didnt think anything of it. When i was 7 weeks pregnant she put me on bedrest for a Corpus luteum cyst and had me on bedrest for 4 months i had to beg her to take me off so i ddidnt lose my job (and i later found out that i never should have been on bedrest at all) In the beginning of my pregnancy i had bloodwork done and Cortez told me that everthing came back good i was STD free no herpes, no hiv, no gonnorhea, no chlamydia, nothing. I had minor issues with her throughout the pregnancy,… just the way she did things and there was sometimes a communication issue with her or her staff but nothing major. Then when i was 36 wks i went in and went to the back and she came in by herself no nurse nobody else and she had a tube with a qtip in it. and she did a swab on me, didnt say a word as to what it was.. so i asked her what it was she was doing? she said, 'well im doing a herpes coulture' i asked her why? she said 'i know u dont remember contracting it but you have herpes' and i thought to myself what does she mean i dont remember contracting it. I told her there was a mistake because i had not had sex since the day i got pregnant (my fiance was overseas) and my tests came back negative. she told me no i had a positive bloodtest for herpes early in pregnancy. i asked her if i could see my chart and she told me no. (i thought this was odd since it is MY medical record) anyway i tried to call the diagnostic clinic to get a copy of my results for the bloodwork, and they said that since it had been onver 6months that the dr has to request it and it will get sent to her office. i tried to get cortez to request it and she refused.. Then about 4 days after she did that swab on me i got very very sick and the next weeks she told me i was having an outbreak even though i had no sores. she put me on valtrex from 36wks to 6weeks after i had my daughter and she did weekly swabs the last 4 weeks. I still have not been able to go to a dr and get tested for Herpes since but i will because now i am very unsure. Between what my friend told me and the inconsistancy with what Cortez told me in the beginning and then at the end of my pregnancy, i am just very confused. And when i gave birth, Cortez ordered an epidural (over the phone)immediately which was ok with me but i also think she should have given me the option instead of ordering the nurse to do it. Then she was late getting to me and my babies head was crowning before she even made it to the hospital. she did not come, not one time before hand to check on my progress i was in labor for 6 hrs and did not see her at all until my baby was coming out. she also makes the nurse shave you for a vaginal birth which i had not experienced with my other pregnancies, she also makes you labor in one room and move into a surgery room when you are ready to push.. i didnt like alot of the whole experience.Then at my 6 weeks check up she gave me a pap smear and never called me with results until 3 &1/2 months later. i wont be going back to Cortez again.

my overall experince with Dr. Cortez wasnt a good one. Initally she didnt get my blood work done in a timely manner and by the time she did find out i was O- it was 7 days after i was orginally suppose to get the shot for having O- bloodtype. I will never go back to her having a miscarriage was one thing but the stress and headache she put me through was on another level.LSG

Her front office is pitiful. Barely any of them speak any good english. Half the time they don't answer the phone, and when they do, you can barely understand them.The Dr. herself is very good. She is a very good Dr. The only reason I went back more than once.

DR CORTEZ IN A GOOD DR, BUT HER FRONT OFFICE STAFF IS LACKING,THE ASIAN OFFICE EMPLOYEE IS HORRIBLE. I CALLED FOR THE RESULTS OF MY PAP AND SHE TOLD M SHE COULDNT FIND MY CHART AND THAT SHE WOULD CALL ME BACK. SHE NEVER DID CALL, SO I CALLED HER BACK AFTER 3 HRS. SHE GAVE ME THE WRONG PERSONS INFO (WHO I MAY ADD HAD SOME SERIOUS ISSUES,)AND I ALMOST DIED. SOMETHING SHE TOLD ME ABOUT MY VISIT WAS NOT CORRECT AND THAT MADE ME ASK HER IF SHE HAD THR RIGHT PERSONS CHART, AND OF COURSE SHE DIDNT. THANK GOD EVERYTHING WITH ME IS OK, BUT SHE TOTALLY TERRIFIED ME BEFORE. SO MY ADVISE WHEN YOU GO TO DR. CORTEZ IS MAKE SURE THE ASIAN LADY HAS YOUR INFO AND NOT SOMEONE ELSES!!!!!!!
