Dr. Maria Joslyn A Oakes, MD

Dr. Maria Joslyn Oakes has been an active part of the pediatric staff at Knapp Medical Center since 2000. She graduated from medical school in 1992 at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine as part of the elite Intarmed Program. This is a highly intense and accelerated program for medical students. Only the 40 top are admitted out of several hundred applicants and even less than that actually complete the program.

After receiving her MD, she subsequently did her 3-year Pediatric Internship and Residency training at the New York University-Bellevue program in Manhattan. Thereafter, she worked in Brownsville briefly before settling down in Weslaco.

Dr Oakes' office has the distinction of being the only Pediatric office in the Mid-Valley area that utilizes a fully integrated Electronic Medical Chart system. It is a "paperless" office with no sign in sheets and no paper charts. Her office, Charming Pediatrics, primarily targets insurance and private pay patients and …schedules patients by same day "appointment-only" basis designed to minimize wait times. This is ideal for professionals and working parents who cannot leave work for several hours just to bring their child in to see the doctor.
