Dr. Maria M Pesquera, MD

I applaud Dr. Persquera for her skills and knowledge. I do not think she listens to the patient. I worry because she is now transferred to a position where she has life/death decisions to make for individuals and their families-palliative Care. Dr. P is fine when she applies what she knows - By the book. I.E. She Requested I undergo a Mamagram which is very painful for my small breast structure. She declared all women must undergo this exam as it is very important in our lives. As I am over 70 and have had several tests over the years, I declined citing there has been no breast cancer in my family, mother, grandmother, sister, aunts, etc. We all had children of course and breast feed our children (babies). I am in the low risk category. She displayed her displeasure to me instead of Listening. Her listening skills were poor in that she did not heed my conversations as to the reasons why I declined and proceeded to do a very rough breast check I was totally taken back… with her actions. I asked why to her as she proceeded and replied, I must as you refuse to take a mammogram. So what ever happened to the Oath of Do No Harm, Listen to your patient. it is their body. Another instance, she looked over all of the moles and requested several times I have them surgically removed. I followed her advice and no surgeon wishes to take the time to remove all of these moles. So far they are not cancerous and I am over 70, so what is the big deal. I have gone to two surgeons. No luck. It is superficial, as she may be. As my life long Primary Care Doctor left the practice, Dr. Pesqueria was recommended and that, I transferred my records to her office to include my med lists, etc. I've had a n issue with my memory since I was in my early 50's. My dad had early onset of Alzheimers. She slowly discontinued myl regimin of meds to offset and delay this terrible disease. These days, I am easily confuse, cannot focus, can't remember basic prayers I learned in my childhood and used all my life. During her reluctance to renew Rxs, I talked to her and she responded, I am fine, I do not need, etc. Her wishes outweighed my concerns, etc. She does not listen. What about Do No Harm., etc. by the book. Speaking of books, one of our lasts visits she gave a book to read about end of life decisions, etc. The main ingredient point is "Doctor is the not the end all for saving lives." So now in her new practice of Pallative Care, I imagine she will throw up her hands and say...That is all I can do. and stop there. Or are patients referred to her after they have been diagnosed . Not sure. But, I do not trust an individual who does not want to follow the Oath of doing their best, to trying to help. But in the long run, she may be the best choice for a family member who is dying. Very disappointed in her.

lack of medical knowledge and terrible attitude.

I became a patient of Dr. Pesquera when my long-time primary care physician left the area. She was recommended to me. My wife, who also lost her previous doctor, also became a patient of Dr. Pesquera. Our initial reaction after our first appointment was generally positive. She seemed to listen to our individual health concerns and answered our questions. However, subsequent experiences have been very disappointing. It is often difficult to get an appointment (she seems to be out of the office very often), and when we do have an appointment, she is unwilling to discuss issues other than the specific reason for the appointment. For example, my wife scheduled an appointment because she had experienced light-headedness and was worried that it might be related to her blood pressure medication. At the appointment, when my wife asked about swelling in her legs, Dr. Pesquera told her that she hadn't come for that reason and therefore would have to schedule a separate appointment. Previously,… when we went to her office for a flu shot, we asked whether we could have our blood pressure taken, and we were charged $20 for that service. I do not get a sense that this doctor really does have our best interests at heart. She seems much more interested in maintaining her schedule than addressing our medical concerns.

Dr. Pesquera is a very good and caring doctor but her office staff is the rudest I ever encounter. They do not pick up the phone, letting go straight to voice mail, do not respond to messages left, including messages left by the pharmacy. Overall totally unprofessional. Unfortunately Dr Pesquera ratings will be lowered by association.

She is highly intelligent, caring and does a thorough job in caring for her patients. She gets 5 stars!

Dr. Pasquera, She is an outstanding physician, she really cares. She takes her time, listens and answers questions. She is the best thing that ever happened to Prime Care. I must also add, it is great that she has Dr. Lemansk i as her back up when she is out of the office, he is a great doctor also. Keep up the excellent work..!!!
