Dr. Maria L. Yataco, MD

I found Dr. Yataco somewhat condescending, cold and unable to form a positive connection - she seemed to be in a rush and even though I came with some notes and questions, she didn't let me talk until she was done with her canned speech. She does not seem able to think beyond her specialty and does not have much of a personality. I have since moved on to an other GI Dr. at Mayo and am very pleased with the new Dr.

Horrible bedside manner, unprofessional, cold as ice, should NEVER have one-on-one contact with patients, arrogant, presumably intelligent. Should be kept behind the scenes.

I'll admit to being very worried when I found out my husband had an appointment with Dr. Yataco. We were traveling 2 days to meet with her and her online ratings thus far were awful. But after meeting with her, I can't imagine giving her less than 5 stars. She was nice, took the time to walk us through his scans, explain his condition, order a few tests and answer a few questions. My husband was minimizing how much pain he was in and she took the time to make him comfortable and draw out the truth from him. Ultimately she is not going to be his surgeon because he needs a different procedure than her specialty, but we had a great experience meeting with her and I would definitely recommend her.

Where do I begin? Can't believe she is a doctor... and at Mayo Clinic?! Our first AND last appointment with her! Rude, scolding condescending, inconvenienced...to say the least!

I would compare Dr. Yataco to a witch; but witches can be charming. I’m sure that she knows her profession well. One does not become a hepatologist without intellect, drive, and grit. Unfortunately, she has the bedside manner of a wolverine. Unlike other doctors with whom I’ve worked, including more than one hepatologist, she treats disease, not people.
