Dr. Marion Ezra Milstead, MD

Dr Milstead is a very caring and professional doctor. I hurt my wrist and no other doctor could determine why my wrist was swollen. Dr Milstead worked with me using tests that found the diagnosis of a (TFCC) Triangle Fibro Cartilage Complex. He was such an honest doctor to tell me that he would recommend me to go to Tulane where doctors were trained. I was so well pleased with the services provided by Dr Milstead. It has been years that I’ve been seen by him, however, I highly recommend Dr. Milstead’s services for hand specialist.

Dr. Milstead saw my daughter through Shriner's. She has CP affecting her right side. Dr. Milstead suggested a Green Tendon Transfer on her wrist to bring it to a neutral position. He told me there would be two incisions (there are.) One on the bottom of her forearm would be about 2/3 of the length of her arm and the other on the top of her wrist about 2 cm. The forearm incision is the entire length of her forearm and the wrist 2 inches. (The scars are significantly bigger than what he led me to believe they would be.) Only AFTER the surgery was done did he tell me her wrist would always deviate to the right because of the way the tendon pulls (never mentioned this before surgery. In fact, he led me to believe it would be straight.) He also told me the goal would be to rid my daughter of wearing a wrist brace for the rest of her life because the tendon transfer would act as a brace inside her body. AFTER surgery at the 3-month check up he told me she needs to wear a night brace during… sleep (ideally) for the rest of her life. I feel lied to. I never saw Dr. Milstead on the day of surgery, only the resident. And at every clinic appointment, he was late (at least 30 minutes but once 90 minutes.) He also explained the same exact thing every. single. visit. And when my daughter tried to engage with him and ask him questions, he cut her off almost every time because he was not patient enough to listen to her with her speech difficulties. I found him very frustrating to try to work with. He talked over both me and my daughter. He would have gotten a lower rating from me, except that the actual surgery seems to have worked as planned and healed properly. So I believe he is a good surgeon. I just don't think he was forthright with me, or had a particularly good bedside manner.

I had left thumb joint replacement in ‘09. Dr. Milstead did such a wonderful job! No more pain! I am getting my right thumb joint replaced this summer.

DR. Milstead done surgery on my right arm in December. My arm has healed well and I am very pleased with my recovery. He explained my condition very well and took the time to answer all my questions. I would highly recommend him. Very pleasant bedside manner.

My son broke his hand and I needed a physician quick to treat it. I called the clinic and got in with Dr. Milstead. My son and I were both very pleased with Dr. Milstead and felt fortunate that we got in with him on the spur of the moment. He took time with us to discuss the problem and figure out the best option on how to treat his broken hand. My son ended up having surgery on his hand and we were very please with the way Dr. Milstead performed the procedure as well. I would definitely use Dr. Milstead again for an orthopedic problem.

I was extremely pleased with the care that I received during and after my hip replacement. I felt that I received exceptional care.
