Dr. Marissa Anderson, MD

I went to Dr. Anderson because I had an anal fissure that I needed to have relief from. Dr. Anderson informed me that I needed a colonoscopy first (it cost me $3,000 with insurance). The first bowel movement was extremely painful and only worsened my fissure. She told me after the colonoscopy that I had a fistula that had to be operated on even though I didn't have any indicating symptoms. She disregarded my complaints of my fissure and told me I had incontinence even though I had no symptoms of incontinence. It was soooo frustrating because she kept diagnosing me with things that I knew I didn't have because I HAD NO SYMPTOMS, but kept disregarding what I did have. She was very insistent and all I could do was cry in frustration during my clinical visits. Taking her word, I had a fistulotomy. After the surgery she told my husband that she COULDN'T find one and that I had NEVER had a fistula. I had to pay a high deductible for a procedure that I DID NOT NEED. After the… procedure my healing fissure reopened and I was in excruciating pain. I called the office almost daily and the nurses kept telling me it was normal regardless of me crying on the phone because of the 24/7 pain. I asked them to have her or anyone else call me but no one did. At my follow-up visit, two weeks later and still in pain, she didn't even acknowledge that she had operated on something I didn't have and insisted that I have a procedure to test for incontinence even though I had no symptoms. NEVER AGAIN. Sometimes I think doctors just want your hard earned money.

I was referred to Dr Anderson by my Gastroenterologist. I needed a fistulatomy. I could have written the review above because my experience was almost exactly the same. Dr Anderson seemed unconcerned with the procedure in general and did not give me a lot of explanation. I had to seek info from FB groups of people who had this procedure. My surgery supposedly went well until day 3 when I experienced terrible pain. I could not even sit on the toilet. I called her office numerous times and got the covering doctor who basically Pooh-poohed me and advised me to up my oxy. That resulted in projectile vomiting. So they addressed that with anti nausea medicine. After an entire weekend of excruciating pain I insisted I be looked at. Sure enough, my first surgery did not work and I had to go back into the OR to start all over again. Dr Anderson and her covering doctor did not listen to me as I cried in pain. Never suggested I come back in. Answered my questions as she backed out of the… office. Never suggested home type remedies to alleviate discomfort. I’m glad others think she’s a lifesaver. This was not my experience.

Unfortunately I had a less than positive experience with Dr. Anderson. Her bedside manner was apathetic but that didn’t impact me initially. My issue is that I was not properly prepared by her regarding my procedure and the ‘healing process.’ She I dictated it was a routine procedure and did not seem concerned. I had to come in to see her several times as I was in great discomfort. She prescribed a compound topical for pain and healing and never mentioned it would burn upon application. I was in tears after the initial application and finally a pharmacist said that I should apply Vaseline beforehand to lessen the discomfort. I was told it would take a couple months to heal and I’m now on month 5. I have since seen another physician for the same problem and he let me know the procedure I had with Dr Anderson likely caused my latest issues. The medicine she put me on gas now caused recurring vaginal issues as well. I would not recommend her to anyone and wish I had sought a second… opinion to spare me the many months of suffering.

Dr. Anderson literally saved my life. When I was dealing with my colorectal condition, it took months before I was able to find a doctor like Dr. Anderson. She's empathetic, incredibly intelligent, and good at her job. She took time to listen to all my problems, and never once rushed me. Surgery was a breeze (she's a pro) and recovery was relatively smooth. I cannot recommend this doctor enough. If you are in the Atlanta area and have a colorectal condition, this is the doctor.

DR ANDERSON HAS REMOVED BOTH MY GALLBLADDER AND APPENDIX AND EVRYTHING WENT SMOOTHE AS SILK. EXCELLENT dr I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Dr. Marissa Anderson saved my life... she was the best doctor and I'm so fortunate that when I went to the emergency room and needed emergency surgery to remove my appendix she was there... so grateful to her for giving me a new lease on life...
