Dr. Mark Leslie Berger, MD

Dropped me as a patient because I never made a follow-up appointment based on a voicemail they claim to have left (they did not, I have all my voicemails going back a year).

Several years ago, when my husband was still alive, Dr. Berger diagnosed me with Parkinsons. Because my husband knew he would not live much longer and would not be here to help take care of me, this caused him incredible stress. I knew I would have to take care of myself and was scared that I might not be able to do this. I wanted to make sure that I did actually have Parkinsons as I believe in getting a second opinion for any devastating diagnosis. I went to a specialists and found out that I DID NOT have Parkinsons. The reason my hands were shaking was due to a medication I was taking. I stopped taking the medication and my hands stopped shaking. I wish my choice for stars included a MINUS star, but I had to at least choose one star so I chose one.

The person I met doesn't even resemble the man described in these reviews. The Dr. Berger I met with listened to my concerns and performed an intial exam consistent with a neurology screening. The questions appeared simple, almost childish, but were critical to determining function. These same tests, over time, were used to track my mother's slow path to dementia. He also performed a series of physical tests to test my neurological condition. He ordered additional blood tests not perfromed by my PCP. I am scheduled for an EEG in a few weeks. They may find someting neurologically wrong, or they may not. The intent of the exam is help figure out what is, or isn't going on. Medicine is a science, diagnoses are determined by narrowing in on the problem. If standard tests point to a neurological problem, he has the knowledge to move forward with a treatment plan. In contrast, if he can't find a neurological problem, you shouldn't be angry with him for not providing a… treatment plan. Don't yell at your dentist for not properly diagnosing your kidney stone. Something else may be out of whack, be grateful it's not neurolgical and move onto the next specialist.

At first I was hesitant to see Dr. Berger since his rating was Poor , but because of his extensive background and A+ Schools I decided to take a chance. Boy I am glad I did, Dr. Berger takes the time to explain everything to you and he listens to you as well. He was gentle and so sweet, I wish I could give him 10 Stars!

Dr.Mark Berger is a no-nonsense guy. He is smart and accurate in his diagnoses. Is he rude...not at all. He treated my wife for moderate dementia. I am quite satisfied. He even referred me for a second opinion to UNM dementia specialist.

The most condescending person I have ever met

Read comments about Dr. Mark Berger but found him very caring and professional once he started his examination which was very comprehensive. Yes, his initial contact with a new patient is abrasive. When trying to give my medical history, he interrupted and made me feel incompetent that I couldn't organize and clearly report my history to his satisfaction. After my visit (which was fine), I thought that his initial interview tactic was to assess the mental capacity and emotional stability of the patient. His skill as a neurologist outweighs his perceived lack of bedside manner.

I was referred to Dr. Gurule, who shares a practice/and or is located in the same office as Dr. Berger. I somehow ended up being set up with Dr. Berger. Dr. Berger is unprofessional and has no bedside manners of any kind. After trying to explain my medical issue with Dr. Berger all I got was Dr. Berger cutting me short and asking me questions I couldn't answer. Not once did Dr. Berger look at my medical records that I brought to him, nor did he provide any treatment of any kind. We met in a conference room. Dr. Berger's office staff are rude and have no customer service of any kind. I can't believe Dr. Berger can still practice treating people the way he treated me. Dr. Berger should be banned from practicing and take his staff with him.

Oy...talking about your Jeckel and Hyde mentality!! He was rude and condescending but I wasnt gonna have it! I fired back telling him to please refrain from interrupting me. VERY RUDE but after the exam he was like an entirely different person. I won't return to him...EVER!! was referred to his colleague for BOTOX treatment!! WHEW. We shall see what his colleague is like.

I don’t see how this doctor is still in practice. He is very rude, uncaring, and would not let me explain myself. I have a poor memory as a result of neurological trauma and years of epilepsy, but I know I will not forget this visit. I was referred to this office by my ankle specialist to evaluate nerve damage on my foot. Berger would not let me explain fully all the nerve problems I was experiencing. When he was going over my information about my medications he asked why I take certain meds and I told him they were for my epilepsy. He asked who I see for that condition and when I gave the name of my former neurologist (who is now retired) he asked in a rude manner: “Why didn’t you just go to his associates?” Berger’s Rudeness and poor attitude continued to the point that I felt completely uncomfortable and decided to discontinue my consultation with him before the exam was completed — I just could not tolerate it anymore. As I got up to leave, Berger followed me to the reception… area and told the clerk to schedule another visit in one month. I just told her to not bother. I will never return to that office. Anyone looking for a compassionate, caring medical professional should look elsewhere.
