Dr. Mark Gerard Byrne, MD

I have worked with Dr. Mark Byrne since 2002 as I wanted an MD strong in preventive care. I believe Dr. Byrne is one of the top "go to" MD's in the Santa Cruz area. He takes his time, is sensitive, smart, sophisticated and highly skilled. It is hard to find an MD like Dr. Byrne plus he is a down to earth person. I have a biological age much lower than my chronological and I have Dr. Byrne ( and of course Me!! and my determination_ to thank for it. You really could not ask for a better Doctor - Dr. Byrne is truly the BEST. He spends plenty of time with you and he truly cares about his patients. The most knowledgeable Doctor I've ever met. The reason for 4 stars is that I've had trouble the last 2-3 weeks to have his staff call my pharmacy for a new medication that the Dr. gave me a prescription for. I truly need or I'm in horrible discomfort. I've called 3-4 times and still no results. Maybe new staff is needed. I doubt Dr Byrne knows that there is a problem or it would be resolved.

I had two visits so far, he was late 30-45 min both times. Seems he doesn't like when patient "knows too much" about his/her conditions and if patient has his/her own opinion. Needs improvement in communication with patients and staff. He was rude to me, and discounted other doctors' opinions. On the plus side ue explains things well and listens to patients. The staff is always late with referrals and I had to call multiple times to confirm referrals. Almost every time they didn't know what was happening with them. Also the clinic is not clean.

I first met Dr Byrne in the hospital while I was having a heart attack. He relieved another physician who was making my symptoms worse and took over my case. He has been my physician ever since. He is a good doctor who listens to what patients have to say. I recommend him.

I like Dr Byrne. He treated me during and after a heart attack. I have regained full functionality with a few limits. He is too busy sometimes and there is a fairly high turnover in the office staff and medical assistants. He has a PA working with him (Margaret) who is excellent.

Dr. Byrnes is an accomplished cardiologist with a full service clinic. Everything from Lab. to nuclear scan (the only one in town). He has followed me through several cardiac surgeries, all in the neck of time. He makes referrals to other specialists when required and has very good contacts with other professionals. I recommend him highly!

Dr Byrne treated my husband at the hospital as a result of an emergency. He was extremely thorough and supportive. He took time to show us the echocardiogram results and explain all his findings. He was very courteous and supportive to our whole family.

Dr. Has no respect for his staff. He is always late.

Highly recommended and very pleasant. I was impressed with his professionalism.

Needs improvement in communication in all areas of staff/ physican.
