I never see doctor like him

Dr. DeRoo has been our pediatrician since our oldest was about 6 months. He is beyond wonderful with both of our children. He talks to you, and explains what he's talking about. He doesn't just hand out antibiotics, and send you on your way. We have had our kids sent home from daycare for being sick on multiple occasions, we can call their office, and get in right away to get them checked out. We wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

I have been taking my oldest son to Dr. Deroo for going on five years now. I've also chosen to take my now 10month old to him as well. The knowledge this man holds is astonishing!!! After reading the aweful reviews of my choice pediatrician I figured he needed one to speak of his talents, and not his short comings. For what some see as short comings I appreciate. I like that he walks in assesses the situation, and is cut dry, and to the point. He's always caring, gentle, and through with with my kids. We're also always in,and out. The nursing staff have been working there as long as we've been going, so were always personally welcomed. In the time of a flu out break, we are set safely in a examination room to reduce my children's chances of catching the bug!! I love Dr Deroo, and the Entire Practice @ College Pointe Medical Plaza!!!!

I recently went to see Dr. DeRoo for a consultation. My ex made the appointment to try and have a note from our regular pediatrician thrown out of court. The concern was having my baby, who has been breastfed ONLY for 12 months, be removed from me for overnight and extended visits. For some info on me: I am a stay at home Mom and practice styles of attachment parenting - nurse on demand, co-sleeping (baby in her crib next to my bed), nurse to sleep, and NEVER using the cry-it-out method. If you are this style of parent, do NOT have Dr. DeRoo as your pediatrician. I was literally attacked for not introducing foods at 6 months. I chose not to because the breastfeeding classes I took with my first said there is no real reason to. Ever heard the phrase "food before one just for fun"? I also feel this is the best for my kids. I was also attacked for nursing my baby to sleep. Even though my ex only has the baby 2 overnights a month that didn't start until she was 5 months old, I was… expected to change our entire routine we've had for a year because she doesn't adjust well. This was contrary to what all the research says about how babies should not have over night visitation until sometime between 2 and 4 years old. This doctor doesn't just not agree with attachment parenting styles, but it was almost like he abhors them. I was the "bad guy" for the entire appointment and it felt like he was trying to shame me. Even if I was in the market for a pediatrician, I would never go back to see him. Avoid this doctor if you relate to any of my styles of parenting.

This doctor apparently has absolutely zero compassion and/or understanding of the children he treats. My daughter presented with extreme pain when urinating and a visible external vaginal infection. A catheter was recommended to isolate a potential bladder infection by getting urine sample without potentially cross contaiminating due to the external vaginal infection. My wife explained a similar sitution with my older son when he was her age that reulted in immense pain and him being afraid to go to the doctor or even get his haircut for 2 years following. My wife inquired about the procedure and the ability to sedate etc., and was met with lack of concern and a lack of any alternative solutions. Thinking she was assisting in getting my daughter the diagnosis and treatment she needed she agreed to allow the procedure to be attempted. The procedure was TORTUROUS for my 2 year old daughter who had to have 3 restrain her and was obviously in IMMENSE pain, fighting and screaming… hysterically from the iodine swaps and catheter being inserted into an OBVIOUSLY infected area. The nurse finally stopped after unsuccessfully getting the cath in and said, quote "I have to stop, I can't torture her anymore". My daughter and wife was in tears by this point and when the doctor came in he was annoyed with both, at one point looking at my two year old, standing (she couldn't sit due to the pain) and crying due to the pain still resonating through her, "you need to stop crying, its out, its not in there anymore, stop crying" in a direct and agitated manor. Before I'm tagged as unrealistic about the need for procedures to properly diagnose...I get that. My major beef is at the absolute lack of concern and/or compassion this doctor displayed. He is a "scientist" type, fast talker, technical talker and seems unable to relate to parents and patients in laymen's terms or with any degree of compassion. I offer my STRONGEST suggestions to NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR and advise those you may know that see him or are considering doing so to seek an alternate physician. I will be personally visiting Dr. DeRoo's office tomorrow to request my 2 children's files and speak with him directly about his behavior toward my 2 year old daughter.
