Dr. Mark Mc Lain Hughes, MD

Emergency room staff was excellent, with the exception of Dr. Hughes. If you are assigned this doctor, ask for someone else. He gives minimal information, does not make eye contact, appears nonchalant about the severity of the findings. As a healthcare provider myself, I was able to ask the right questions, but I came away with very little confidence in his assessment of our situation.

From the moment Dr. Hughes examined my mother, he was completely condescending in his talk to her. He was rude and dismissive of her symptoms and feelings. It was immediately clear to us that this doctor had an attitude and manner of mighter than thou. He displayed absolutely zero empathy towards how badly she was feeling and had no desire to try to delve into the cause (because that might take more than 2 minutes)...He just decided to throw out an off the cuff textbook term to get her out of there fast and dismiss her. (Turned out later she was correctly diagnosed with a rather serious disorder that should have been addressed at that time.) I wish now that I had asked for the hospital administrator to have replaced him with someone else.
